Anybody Watching the News Assasination Attempt on Bush Today?

On a significantly more serious note, as a Pacifist I’m thoroughly horrified that anyone would make an attempt on that man’s life. It is beyond the pale. I’ve been inside the White House, stood with my back pressed ( literally ) against the glass doors to the Oval Office. The USSS is nothing if not restrained. I’m thankful that they were careful in their marksmanship.

Better to let that man rot forever for the crime, than kill him outright. My two cents.

Umm, is there evidence that the gunman was even interested in shooting Bush? Maybe he wanted to shoot someone at the White House: Laura Bush, the Chief of Staff, the gardener, I don’t know.

In other words, I bet it’s likely he would’ve been there if Gore were President.

I heard a dude in the Lower Congo capped off a round last nite- from which the Prez was in exactly as much danger. ASSASINATION attempt? Crikeys, guys.

Some guy threatens to kill himself in a public place (Whitehouse), and you guys call it an assasination attempt?

Come on. Cartoon, why should he rot in prison for trying to kill himself. Interesting attitude towards mantal health there…

I would remind everybody that the thread was started about 20 minutes after the event.

Assassination attempt was exactly how things were being portrayed on TV at that point.

The first version I heard (when they interrupted the radio at about 8:55 PST) was that an armed man was IN the West Wing and that shots had been fired. Obviously that was not the case.

Made the conversation we had at work about how someone with a gun could get into the West Wing seem kind of silly. We almost owe the Secret Service an apology.

Well they just might need that near Evanston, Indiana, but dave316 said Evansville, Indiana, which is where this man lives.

It was a media circus outside his house today, and I had the displeasure of dealing with reporters congregating on my lawn. You’d think that they would have the common courtesy of at least not walking through my flower beds, but noooooo.

Keep yer britches on people, there is a lot more to this than you are hearing.

I was gonna get up on some stupid high horse here about how I’ve years of experience dealing with mentall ill. Threemae, you’re right. I was responding solely to what I was reading from early reports, and had not followed the lastest news before posting. He violated like a bazillion laws in doing what he did, but if his intente was suicide rather than homicide, then I thoroughly retract my posting’s comment about jail time.

He shouldn’t rot in prison for attempted suicide. If that truly was his only intent. Apologies.

<—passing around a 15 Gallon Cowboy Hat for a collection to re-seed Atropos’ flower beds. That sucks, and the worst part is that you can’t go after anyone for trespass.

This is an interesting new approach to suicide attempts. Very…uhh…radical…

I found it bizarre that only minutes after I found this story on this week’s Onion

http://www.theonion.com/onion3704/clinton_disappointed.html

That I hear about a gunman being shot outside the White House.

This is one area where Bush immediately tops Clinton.

Sorry, don’t mean to hijack, but…

Why not? Am I missing something, here?

mm

Yep, sucks golf balls through a garden hose. There is only one local news station that has the courtesy to not A) Trespass on your property and trample things to death, B) Block your driveway with their vans, and C) Not chase you into your house trying to get a good sound bite. The secret service is actually nicer that the reporters.

I just feel sorry for Robert because he let himself deteriorate this far. Suicide by cop is getting pretty popular these days.

Ya know, a couple of weeks ago there was a thread in this forum asking about a fire in D.C.

I am now able to conclude that no one in Washington D.C. has access to a news-oriented web page!

No wonder the rest of us think y’all are out of touch.

Lacking an actual, you know, question, this thread is closed.
