ABC is more vague, but NY Post says Secret Service shot at man who may have had a gun. Apparently Trump wasn’t actually fired at, and is safe.
ETA, the first version of the NYP article did not specify an AK-47.

I’m glad he’s safe and no-one appears to have been injured.
I’m saddened that this is happening.
From the reports in the OP it seems Trump was not the target. He just happened to be nearby(ish) when someone shot a gun (and I am willing to bet the person who shot the gun had no idea Trump was near). Trump was never in any danger near as I can tell (admittedly early in the reporting and I am willing to bet Trump will try to spin this to his advantage).
If only people had more guns things like this wouldn’t happen. /s
I thought Republicans were in favor of open carry…
For themselves. Not for “others”.
The NYP article (which is being revised) states that the only shots were fired by the Secret Service who saw a man carrying, but not shooting, a rifle, and who was later apprehended.
I’m holding my breath waiting for the NRA to claim outrage that someone using their constitutional right to carry a gun was shot at and then apprehended by law enforcement. A right the NRA has fought diligently for over many decades.
Surely this is beyond the pale for law abiding gun owners! /s
First thing I checked, Florida is not an ‘open carry’ state.
It’s like that apocryphal factoid about how you’re never more than three feet from a spider — “In the US, you’re never more than fifty meters away from someone being shot!”
So… nobody shot at Trump, and the only people who opened first were the Secret Service agents who shot someone who happened to be holding/carrying a gun on the perimeter of the security zone they had set up? Was there any actual indication that the person exercising their right to bear arms intended any harm to anyone? Or was this someone exercising their right to bear arms who just happened to be exercising it at the wrong place and time?
Because, yeah, these politicians are all for people walking around heavily armed with guns until they get too close to said politicians, at which point it’s suddenly not OK.
The video on the NYPost page says that 2 people exchanged gunfire, and the shooters were targeting each other.
A lot rides on who shot at who first.
Link addressing myths of Fl gun laws.
CBC is reporting that the FBI says it was an attempted assassination.
Trump says that the FBI tells lies, though.
– if somebody actually is trying to shoot at Trump: cut it out. That’s not how to run an election. And it’s not helping.
I’m checking “White” and “Republican” on my bingo card.
AP now has:
So apparently it’s more than just someone carrying a long gun around.
That article does not mention race. I double down on White Republican.
Interesting that the AP article–which is quite long–says nothing about any of that. It DOES say:
