Anybody working on this month's Games Magazine's cartoon rebuses?

Well, I can’t go for the “artist sucks” theory. The only other person in a drawing whose hands and fingers are not the same size is the dentist in #11 and his thumb is part of the answer.

I’ve got a theory on #14, but can’t quite make it work:

Colca Canyon – COCA CAN I AN is the closest I can come.

Interestingly, Colca Canyon is home to the Andean Condor, the answer to the real #10 posted on the Games website. Seems like too much of a coincidence not to be the answer. Maybe Colca is pronounced “coca” – would seem odd to me, but I’ve never been to Peru.

first are we sure its 8.5 and not 85
if its 85 thats equivilent to a B

now this is another stretch

but could it be

Point B-Hair-O

for Point Barrow

the man is pointing-grade B–hair- the O on the coke can

The 3 other "B"s that appear all look pretty different than the 8, whether it’s an 85 8-5 or 8.5

no, what i meant was if its 85 that equals a letter grade of B

you know like 85% 90-100=A 80-89=b 70’s=C etc

so if he gives them both an 85 then hes grading them as a B

just a thought

I looked through Wikipedia’s listings of fictional places, and didn’t find anything that fit.

I thought the first word could be POINT, but Point Barrow was the only thing I could find that had the right number of letters, and it doesn’t work.

Could the 2nd word be ISLAND? Maybe if “lend” is a synonym for “give,” but I don’t think so.

These rebuses commonly juxtapose a word between two others that’s the end of the first word and the beginning of the second, like they did with Aaron Eckhart. (ERA-NECK-HEART). I was thinking COLAS could be that word, but nothing springs to mind.

Maybe 8.5 is some magic standard of something significant, like the pH of water (which is 7). Hydroxymethyl has a pH of 8.5, but that’s too long. He put the dot in the middle, rather than at bottom, so maybe it’s 8 TIMES 5?

FORTY?

the brain…it oozes…

Hi. I am also working on #14 and I thought it might be _______estate. Estate fits the 6 letter criteria and you could get estate from ----- test eight. Perhaps the first word ends in t? Any thoughts or suggestions from there?

I found a list of place types. Maybe this will help.

I too am stuck on #14. I do think that one hand seems to be bigger than the other . Is that to indicate that he is pointing? Or is it his thumbs? They all have their thumbs up. So is “thumb” part of it? or is “point” part of it? Is it 8 “point” 5 or is it 8 and a “half”? There is a place called Five Points but that is too easy. I also came up with something STANDS. As in TAY-STANDS (taste hands) but don’t know what the **tay could be.

Except that the word five is only four letters. How did I make that mistake? My mind is boggled at this point.

I have 1, 2, 3, 4, 8, 11, 12, and 13. Would be happy to trade for any of the others.

BTW…what the hell do they mean by “jurist” in number 5?

They mean judge

… kept me awake last night.

Been trying to brainstorm an answer: score? --there are two “ties”, the one you wear, they both got 8.5 – rating – five hands – five thumbs – taste test, evaluation ? – went throught the geographical dictionary looking for places that begin with Ti or Ty, nothing leapt out at me –

note to nycguy29, I think the other answers are revealed by scrolling through the previous posts

I thought Taiwan might be the second word…but couldn’t get a fit anywhere else.

My brain is fried!!! I’ve searched places until I am blue in the face!

I’m starting to think #14 has no answer – that it’s an April Fools joke.

I have #14.
Do you want a hint? Or should I just post it?

I don’t get the magazine but from your description…

Tie-Coke-Rater? Tycho Crater on the moon maybe

I think that’s it! I d/led a moon atlas before and looked for any craters that fit the answer, but didn’t see Tycho.

Kudos to wolfman! AWWOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

eb512, I assume you had the same answer!!! kudos to you and wolfman. I can now sleep. I have been tossing around rogue words in my head for days, and coming up blank.

hi all, just joined the board. I had all but numbers 11 and 14, so thanks! I love doing these puzzles just for fun.

funny story- over a year ago there was a crossword contest I had the answers to. I called my father in law with the answers and we agreed to split the money if either one won. ( it was the puzzle involving the planets). sadly, my father in law passed away before the results. when the family went to his home for the funeral, there was the games magazine sitting on his desk. lo and behold, my mother in law calls a couple months later and said he won a runner up t shirt! ( I won nothing). she gave it to me, since we both loved puzzles of all kinds. so now that goofy shirt means a lot to me. a memory of “Pops”
