…and I bought it - the 32" version, with an extra shelf plus a coffee cup holder shelf. already. (See accessories and scroll way down.)
Fact is, I’m a little worried. The guy I dealt with was a laconic clod, and although he assured me of the quality of the thing, I wonder if he spake with forked tongue.
Anyone else have one? Is it great? Just okay? Piss poor?
I saw that review, too, and mentioned some of the complaints to the guy at Airdesks, who pooh poohed them - viny/plastic pipes, saw marks, etc., - as BS.
Well, the stand is supposed to arrive on Monday. Then I’ll see how bad or good the thing is for myself.
Not bad, but Levenger.com’s Scooter really appeals to me, I have seen one in person and it is very nicely constructed, though it is a bit pricy. I am planning on getting myself one next summer=)
I tore that picture out of a Levenger catalog, gave it to my brother, and told him I wanted that for Christmas. His welder buddy made the metal bit; his carpenter buddy made the top. LOVE it, even though I don’t use it for a laptop but simply as a keyboard stand/remote control holder/today’s mail holder/place to put my cigarettes, lighter, and back scratcher. And checkbook, and…ok, I have to clean.
Anyhow, it doesn’t “scoot” as it’s made of steel instead of aluminum, but it is adustable (height and tilt) and it’s perfect for tipping back in my chair and putting my feet up on a stool while surfing and watching tv. Second best thing my brother ever made for me.
Actually, the whole time I had a laptop I wished for something like that - Something that would allow me to sit at a setee without having to sit forward and kill my spine in the process… or put the laptop on my lap (lap… top… now I get it! OMG! WE LANDED ON THE MOON!) and burn my leg.
All in all, I think the Airdesk is a better concept—but only if the thing performs
as advertised.
I might even be able to hang a lightweight lamp (for reading/keyboard illumination) off one of its shelves, and that would eliminate a pain the ass floor lamp that stands beside my Lazy-Boy.
Then, of course, there’s that coffee holder. Life without it would be uncivilized. On the wall of our living room, there hangs a sampler my wife got from her sister that reads:
“What on earth could be more luxurious than a sofa, a book and a cup of coffee?”
You’re not going to argue with Anthony Trollope, are you?
It probably looks comfortable wrapping your legs around that Scooter stand, but I have a feeling that position gets old in a hurry. And the price is so high.
Even so, I may regret not getting the Scooter instead. Hope not, though. And if you get one, I hope it does the trick for you.
Well, this Stickley Mission Spindle Chair is going to be my next summer indulgence purchase, and the arms are just high enough that I really can not use the other one, but the scooter would be perfect - and the one my friend has scoots just fine. I have noted that I can sit just fine in the chair with my legs tucked up beside me, crossed in a half lotus or sitting normally, and the scooter would work for all 3 positions. I want to indulge myself for telecommuting and this chair is absolutely comfortable [and for $3000 it damned well better be=) ]
