Shhhh. We’re trying to keep it a secret so they don’t learn about her. You know. . . them!.
Check out her sister Victoria Williams as well. They’re both amazing. Unfortunately, I’ll have to check PBS to see if they’re re-airing it anytime soon.
I didn’t see this either, but Lucinda is great. The critics all know who she is and generally love her, but she’s just not a hit songwriter. Also, she tends to take a LOT of time between albums because she wants them done her way and the right way.
Heheh, Reeder, didn’t think country music could be that sensual, didja?
I first caught her on Austin City Limits about 15 years ago. Just blew me away. I’ve been a fan ever since, and even saw her with Joe Ely in a little club here in Richmond (of all places). There weren’t 50 people in the club.
As someone else pointed out, SHHH, we’re trying to keep her a secret. And while she take forever to produce “Car Wheels On A Gravel Road,” she’s since produced two albums in a little over three years.
A bit of trivia: Her dad was poet laureate of the US.
“I’m going back to the Crescent City, where everything’s still the same…”
Yeah… Her second album was about eight years after her first, and Car Wheels was six years after her previous album. Squabbles with the record company and label changes were to blame both times, I think.
(Feels slightly smug having bought “Happy Woman Blues” back in the day.)
She opened for Mary Chapin Carpenter back when MCC was wildly popular. She performed “Passionate Kisses” during the concert and MCC was blown away by it. She asked Williams if she could sing it, and Williams said “heck, why don’t you record it?”
Thus it became one of MCC’s biggest hits.
“Well I can’t stay round cause I’m going back south/
But all I regret now is I never kissed your mouth”
Saw it, loved it, been a fan for years. Was excited about Kasey Chambers, too, but she didn’t get to play long enough. That show could have easily been 2 hours long. Check out the playlist at www.pbs.org to see what we all missed.
I thought this was a common mis-conception that the two were sisters, but I’m too lazy to check for myself.
Anyway, Victoria is married to Marc Olson. Marc Olson was in the Jayhawks and recorded one of the finest albums in the history of music, mainly Hollywood Town Hall.
Check it out if you enjoy fine music. It defys catagorization.
Quitters never win. Winners never quit. I never win, but I never quit, so what the hell am I?
