I recently read about Monoprice in the Chron. Here’s their site: Monoprice. Anyone done business with this firm? How do they stack up?
They’re great! Good quality, great prices. If you’re thinking that the cheap prices means that their products are of “cheap” quality, you might just be pleasantly surprised. They get recommended regularly around these parts.
(BTW, this thread is better suited for the IMHO forum, I’ll go ahead and report it so it gets moved over there.)
Thanks voltaire! I’ve never heard of this firm. Probably 'cause I spend too much time on the SDMB.
Monoprice is great. I particularly love the multi-colored cables. When you are running half a dozen cables in back of one cabinet, making them all different colors is a big time-saver later on. That’s a small thing, admittedly. The important thing is that the stuff is good quality. Really never had a problem.
And if you live in California or Nevada, they can ship your package using a messenger service overnight really, really cheap.
Top notch company. Great prices, especially for bulk orders. Besides cables, they also sell accessories which I’ve had good luck with.
They saved my bacon when I wanted an inexpensive way to send computer video 30 feet to my living room TV. Where else can you find a 30 foot headphone jack to RCA converter?
They’re great. A lot of people like. Cheap cables and such. They “make” branded items. I have one of those external USB batteries that works good. Their in-ear monitors are $8 or something. Not the best sound, but decent for a spare pair.
I’m not sure how that works. I’ve done overnight to both states (cheaper than the regular 3 day or whatever the next highest one). The next few times it was unavailable, no explanation. I guess it depends on the weight or dollar minimum).
Another satisfied customer.
(Although I wish they had more clearly labeled their unidirectional HDMI cables. You know what happened.:o)
I use them all the time, especially for adapters and connectors. My only complaint is some of their cables are so thick and beefy that they aren’t always the best choice, like RCA phono plugs, where there is nothing holding a plug in the socket except friction. Heavy and stiff cables can pull out too easily if you bend them a little.
Their prices are really good. Standard shipping is slow, but that’s not their fault, it’s a function of the distance between us.
Their on-site search function is poor, but that’s true of most non-google sites. If you call a plug a “mini-phone” you won’t find it, as it’s listed as “3.5mm”.
They have wireless mice for $9 each.
I buy from them all the time, they’re the only place I get cables.
Great site. I have had stuff shipped to Canada regularly and it arrives quickly. I highly recommend them.
I get all my cables as well as my toner cartridges from them.
When I got a new TV (as well as Blu-Ray, receiver and some other stuff), I got all my HDMI AND two day shipping for less then the price of one HDMI cable from Best Buy.
A few weeks ago I was getting some toner for work and needed an Ethernet cable. I think a twenty foot cable was something like $3. I’d rather wait a few days for it to show up than spend $15 on it at a brick and mortar store.
Yes, I’ve done a lot of business with them, never had a problem with them. Their customer service is great as well. I’ve returned a few things and they’ve even called me when one of my items was back ordered to see if I wanted to sub it out for something else rather than hold up the shipment.
As everyone said, they’re fine. I’ve bought several HDMI cables for less (including postage) than one would cost from Best Buy. But regarding what Musicat said about beefy cables, I bought a twenty-foot HDMI cable to run from the computer to the TV and it was really heavy. But I’ve been satisfied the three or four times I’ve ordered from them.
I’ve been doing business with them (and recommending them to others, including here on the Dope) for a few years now: excellent products, terrific prices and fantastic customer service.
The worst thing I can say about them is neither of the 1.20$ media card readers I bought there worked. But I think you can see where I went wrong there. It’s where I order all the ethernet / DVI / Displayport / HDMI / Apple / whatever cables for our office. I needed two 50’ ethernet cables for my house, and even factoring in shipping it was cheaper than going to an in-town PC supply store.
Yep. Love them. I needed to get a Display Port to Mini Display Port adaptor to hook up a 27" Dell monitor to my Mac at full resolution (the new Mac only takes a Mini Display Port connection for the monitor.) The Apple solution to this problem is to use the monitor’s DVI connection and use a dual-link DVI to Mini Display Port adapter, as they don’t sell a DP to mini-DP adapter (and few people do, it seems.) The Apple solution is, unsurprisingly, expensive. $99. And a bit ugly, requiring two sets of cables, both somewhat bulky. After doing some research, I found that Monoprice sells a sleek, 6’ DP-to-MDP cable for $4.88. Works like a charm and saved myself $95.
You probably have enough recommendations already, but I’ll throw another one in… I buy from Monoprice all the time and love 'em. Great company!
More love for Monoprice. They’re great for iPhone cables too at a small fraction of the price of the real ones.
+1. Bought cables from them several times over the years, with nary a problem.
I hope they’ll keep it up, unlike some other vendors that used to be awesome but now kinda suck <cough>Newegg<cough>.
Thank you for all of the feedback.
I’ve purchased ethernet cables and various types of USB cables from them. Never had a problem. Their shipping prices used to be better. It seems like they are keeping the cable prices low and jacking up the shipping costs a little to make up for it, but still, even with that factored in they are way cheaper than the local retail stores. Everything I bought was decent quality too. No complaints.
