I pick at the skin of roast chickens and ducks, and the fatty parts of prime rib and other marbled cuts of beef, and the chunks of fat on pork roasts, and similar. I like the meat too, but the first thing I go for is always the skin and fatty parts. Right now I’m thinking about the skin on the roast chicken leftovers in the fridge, and probably as soon as I walk in the door I’ll be picking off that skin and eating it cold.
My wife usually doesn’t eat these parts, and gives me odd looks when I pick them off her plate.
I think it’s really common. I try to mix it into bites with meat, so that it spreads the flavor and isn’t that obvious. But the only thing you can do with the pope’s nose (tail) of a chicken or turkey is grab it.
Yes, I have these cravings and like hamburger with a higher fat content using the excuse it cooks better on the grill. I tend to stop doing stuff that makes a female give me funny looks though, that can’t end well.
Prime rib with lots of marbling and a thick layer of fat on the outside, mmmmmmmmmmmm! The only thing better is being able to load up your fork with buttered mashed potatoes and hot brown gravy at the same time! :o
I’m don’t usually eat a bite that is just fat, but a bite that’s half fat and half meat is heaven. Especially if you get a hold of a tri-tip that’s untrimmed and you cook the fat cap until it’s crispy on side… it’s like beef bacon.
