Anyone else doing National Novel Writing Month 2015?

To add a buddy:

http://nanowrimo.uservoice.com/knowledgebase/articles/329157-how-do-i-add-or-remove-a-writing-buddy

I am adding some people from this thread- so if you get someone who has a decidedly non corvidae type of name,… it may be me. I am just reluctant to post my real name here in the forum, all out in the open-like.

ETA THe search was useless, but I found if you know the username, you can send a message and then add from the message.

My username is dmsbr549.

You can also type the person’s user name directly into the url. If you go to your own home page you’ll see your user name in the url in your browser. Replace it with the user name of the person you want to add and it will take you to their home page and you can add from there. I just added everyone in this thread who gave their name.

Cool!

I’ve only ever made a serious go at it once, and I was hugely unsuccessful.

However, I have decided to try and write something every day next month. It’s a good habit to have.

I tried a couple of years ago and didn’t get far. But I just signed up for this year and am feeling a good deal more motivated. I have some images floating around in my brain that I need to do something with…

This is a great habit to pick up (that said, I haven’t managed it myself yet).

My best friend had some good advice: Even if I don’t hit 50,000 words by November 30, I’ll still have more words than when I started November 1.

Less than 10 hours 'til start time! I’m getting nervous…

I’m usually a pantser, but when I’ve tried to flesh out a story, I’ve found the Snowflake Method to be of use. Here’s the short version: How To Write A Novel Using The Snowflake Method

Anyone else have a tool to share? Are you pantsing or planning? And, most important… what’s your word-count?

I’ve got the first 1/3 of the book loosely blocked out and I know the major beats after that, but there’s still a lot left undecided. I discover a lot about a story in the process of writing, so it doesn’t do me much good to get too detailed with my outline. I just do enough to keep me on track with pacing/foreshadowing.

Word count is currently 1043 but that’s because I cheated and started a couple of days ago. (I didn’t want to risk freezing up trying to think of an opening line on the first day.) I’m just sitting down to do my first block of real NaNo writing right now.

Ack!

I’m excited but haven’t had enough coffee. I already know, given my family’s schedule, that I will be most productive during the week.

I’ve picked my story, got some outlining done (although like THK I find things shift as the story moves on), and started writing.

I forgot to check my word count… :o

I need more coffee. I wasn’t that crazy on Halloween, but I feel awfully befuddled today.

I’m doing it. I’ve had a novel in mind that I’ve been world-building on since last year. Today I got a little over 1K words written.

If anyone wants to add me, I’m Ryl.

300 words this morning. More later. I want to try to finish Chapter 1 today.

  1. I have a setting, I have characters, I have introduction, I have vague ideas… Pantsing all over again!

The Nano site is sloooow today

Wow. The NaNo site is glacially slow. Trying to add Ryl and I can’t even get a page to open.

As usual, November is going to be one of the busiest months of my year, so no novel from me.

However, also as usual, I will be hanging up the shingle of the Ball of Bad Plotz. When you get stuck–when a plot, a scene, or even a name just won’t come–post about it here. I, the Seer of Schlock and Medium of MacGuffins, will dust off the cracked crystal orb and do my best to get you unjammed.

Prophetic doggerel available at no extra charge.

Bad Plotz[sup]TM[/sup] are provided for entertainment purposes only, and Ball, Inc. takes no responsibility for maiming, derangement, or pratfalls resulting from their use.

It’s opening just fine for me. Granted, I haven’t tried to *do *anything on the site yet.

I’m at a little over 600 words for the day so far. That’s not my personal best, but is pretty typical for me. This should explain why I’ve never won NaNo, but I’m inching along towards the end of my novel.

Ok, you guys convinced me to jump in. Ever since Le Ministre de l’au-delà stopped doing the writing contests in the SDMB I’m not building my world like I used to, so I think I have to put it all together, I was considering to do a webcomic (it may happen next year) but I also think that I have to build the world that I have even more; so, I’m trying writing a novel this time.

My handle at NanoWriMo is M_ggbuster Will begin adding material later today or tomorrow as I have to do some small planning.

Skipped yesterday as I was volunteering all day, but got 507 words down this morning.

I only have a little bit of time before choir rehearsal tonight, so I’m rushing to get my words done. (And post here… sigh) I’ve found in the past that if I skip a day, it’s REALLY REALLY HARD for me to catch up, so I’m going to try not to miss any. Even though that means taking my laptop with me when I go camping tomorrow! Eeek!
