Anyone Else Find This NOT All That Funny?

Okay, according to CNN, this is the world’s funniest joke:

Uh, yeah. That’s not what I’d call funny. Am I alone here?

Well, come on, it’s CNN, not Comedy Central. Can you really trust them on something like this?

I personally thought it was funny, but not so funny I’d die laughing. Now for that I’d resort to a couple of dead baby jokes, maybe add a pedophile pun in there…

Anyway, you can’t choose the best joke out there. For everyone, it’ll be different. This joke has been hyped up as the best joke- it’ll never live up.

Nonsense. The funniest joke in the world is still the tied-together shoelaces of an unsuspecting loudmouth.

Well, remember it’s not supposed to be a joke that will please YOU, it’s supposed to be a joke that a largest number of people agreed was funny.

I think it’s funny as hell–as a joke. If it were a real incident, it would be tragic. What I struggle to understand is anyone not thinking it’s funny.

It didn’t even make me smile.

I got a giggle out of it. It’s a funny camping/hunting story, but not nearly as funny as the snake bite on the cock joke (You know, two guys go camping/hunting, one gets bit on the cock by a snake, the other calls the doctor and is told he has to suck the poison out. He then turns to his friend and says "Sorry, Jim. You’re gonna die).

But yeah, jokes are personal preference. I personally think the Clown Joke is the funniest fucking joke out there, but the second I utter the words “There once was a boy named Billy,” 90% of my friends start to follow through on previous promises of violence. Jokes are entertainment, and like all entertainment, it depends on what you’re into.

bingo. If I remember the methodology of the study, many, many people found other jokes to be much funnier than this one. This was just the joke that the largest number of people thought was at least pretty funny. personally, I thought it was kinda humorous. If someone told it to me(and I hadn’t heard it before), I’d probably chuckle. but its certainly not laugh-out-loud, knee-slapping funny.

“von vas… assaulted”

      • I find Woopi Goldberg very not funny but mysteriously famous none-the-less. Maybe she was better way back in her early days.

Looks like the Sherlock Holmes joke has been dethroned huh?
It’s ok. I prefer kids jokes. 7 8 9 and all that.

I figured that the hunting joke won because it’s particularly easily translated. It doesn’t really rely on an English-specific pun; I’ll bet many languages use the same phrase for both “check to make certain” and “ensure by finishing the job yourself” or something similar.

That reminds me of the Lone Ranger joke.

Wenn ist das Nunstruck git und Slotermeyer? Ja! … Beiherhund das Oder die Flipperwaldt gersput!

I’ve changed it to two drunken NRA members are out hunting…

it gets a little better then. Personally, I’m into Pope jokes myself. All that holier than thou stuff can make for some good incongruity.

No, no, no. You’re all missing the REAL joke. CNN is pulling your leg about all this in an effort to show you how ridiculous news polls are.

See, they polled people about jokes, and this won because it got the most votes for being somewhat funny. Ergo, the most “somewhat funny” votes then translates into “more people thought this was funny”, which then translates into “this is the funniest joke ever”, even though it’s not. It’s not about humor, it’s about poll-driven results.

Get it?

Well, when you have to explain a joke, it’s not nearly as funny…

CNN didn’t poll people, a British university (Hartsfordshire) did. Take a look at their results.

Oh. Then I guess the joke’s on us.

Seems to me that it is not the most funny joke, it is a joke with the highest aggregate chuckle rating, in other words it has the highest average, its just an average joke.

Could someone please tell me the clown joke? this is the second thread in which it has been mentioned ands i still havent heard it.
