Anyone else get confused buying oldish games?

I wanted to see about buying the two Hitmans before Hitman 3…but the various packages are confusing as hell. Just package it as a Game of the Year. All the talks of ‘including seasons’ is confusing. So i passed on it.

Then i decided i wanted to get into the Assassins Creed franchise. So i was looking at AC: Odyssey,

Same problem. Various packages with ‘seasons’…gear…etc…so i ended up getting the Gold Edition. And now i’m starting with all kinds of gear, and i feel like I’m cheating. I guess i don’t have to use the special gear the game starts with, but am i supposed to?? The funnest part of games is the gear grind and finding stuff to improve your rags, and now I’m just starting with ‘legendary gear’?

I feel lost looking at the different versions of games to start with. I want a good deal on DLCs but don’t really want to start a game with an advantage.

I can’t help you with either of those specific games. But I do absolutely feel your pain. Pay to win dlcs are terrible. The only time I’d not mind them is if I had already completed the game legit first.

With AC:O, the “best” gear is whatever gear gives the best stats for what you’re trying to do. I built my guy around assassination and poison, so stats that don’t boost that won’t help much.

Also, the strength of gear is based largely around the level it is at (which you can pay a blacksmith to improve as you level) and the inscriptions you put on it. So that gear may last you all game or you might replace it soon.

I know I started with all kinds of gear with whatever version I have, but it didn’t last long. Don’t worry, you have lots of story and loot and character building to look forward to, you haven’t cheated or skipped anything or missed out. It’s one of my favorite games ever, I hope it is for you too.

Thanks Atamsama! I was hoping that was the case.
