I thankfully am able to avoid Rihanna mostly, but I am one of the few people I know who will admit to liking that Umbrella song. There was a dancehall mix of that song that I had on repeat for a good while.
Don’t listen to mainstream music. With all the channels we now have to access music and opinions about music, there is absolutely no reason to be listening to the generic tripe that makes up “Top 40”. Seriously, you’re listening to the aural equivalent of carpet bombing, and complaining about over-saturation?
What I can’t understand is with all the easy access to different genres and performers, the trend is towards more generic music. What’s up with that? Is it the paradox of choice? All these choices are too confusing, so instead I want everything I listen to to sound exactly the same, and be exactly what everyone else I know is listening to. I don’t get that at all.
In other words, get off my lawn? No seriously, I think plenty of kids listen to lots of varied music, but often they’ll use things like youtube to discover that music, which doesn’t register on any chart. Looking at the US Billboard Top 40 there is plenty of variety even if it’s mainly stuff that isn’t your cup of tea.
Saturated by Rihanna? Clearly what you need is an umbrella (rella rella).
I don’t listen to that genre of music so I’ll comment on her appearance. I thought she was crazy hot when she had short hair, as on her first *Shy Ronnie *SNL appearance. That long neon red mess is horrible though. And she is rapidly approaching tattoo victim status. I thought the stars behind her ear and down her neck was great but she didn’t know when to quit. Unless the ink on her arms and hand is fake. In that case, disregard.
See, I’m thinking that you have a naked Rihanna dancing in your field and you’re getting pissed? I’m getting out the camera. But the, I don’t listen to much radio (I have an iPod and can listen to whatever I want), so I avoid most overexposure.
I think I’ve heard of her. If I knew who she was, I’d probably be sick to death of her.
I was saturated with her by the second time I heard her say “umber-ella”…
I’m curious where you guys seem to hear so much music that you don’t like. I know I’ve been a homebody for the past three years, but I don’t remember often hearing songs of any particular artist, unless they were just really old and got in commercial jingles or something.
Then again, I was never really a partier or clubber.
Radio. Newfangled contraption, grabs invisible energy waves right outta the air and converts them to audio. They’re even puttin’ em in cars these days!
She has one of the worst voices in pop today. A vocal range from A to B.
Switch to amplitude modulated news programs. Your sanity will thank you.
I tend to think that people don’t necessarily enjoy choosing music, they like it fed to them. I, like a lot of people, have a huge music collection but sometimes I just want to hear something new/novel and I don’t feel like searching for it. Top 40 radio is the path of least resistance for this and most of the songs, musically and creatively, aren’t bad. They are made for people who don’t like music, easy to digest and easy to get stuck in your head. They are simple and catchy, on purpose, engineered for mass acceptance.
She’s smokin’ hot and makes catchy music that’s fun to dance to. She can stay.
Most of the AM around here is Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and the like. They do my sanity no favors.
