Not to beat a dead horse, but is anyone going to try to answer DSeid’s initial complaint? Because I think everything else is a side issue to the one that started the thread and as he is the OP, one would believe that might deserve some looking in to / an explanation. Just saying.

I felt that Senegoid was being overly snarky to me, and since his post contained nothing which addressed the OP or the topic it’s undeniable that his post was solely intended to poke at me.

My second post was overly lengthy because I was explaining that although the economy sucks and the job market sucks there’s a reason why I could say that I had a luxury of not being in the position of being out of work and looking, so my answer had to be treated differently. At this time I had still not re-read the OP and I was dumbly unaware I was not really addressing it properly and explaining in a hamfisted manner.

If my post was off-base or wrong, it nonetheless was not “threadshitting” as defined, and DSeid violated Dex’s directive on this message board. And when he received a Mod note to dial it back, he continued to not understand this (his own post following). Based on DSeid’s snarky post I did go back to the OP and realized I had not addressed it properly, and that I was in the wrong there. I felt stupid but what could I do at that point but post an answer to Jenaroph later, who asked a question I could directly address, to try to add something substantive to the thread.
I did also respond in-kind to DSeid’s snark and reported his violation of Dex’s note. Then we had a Moderator decision… … …and here we are.

It was a couple sentence OP for Pete’s Sake, not some 3 page convolution of a hypothetical that required a spare afternoon to read and flowchart to understand. If that doesn’t deserve some snark, what does? I thought basic snark was a trademark of the SDMB as a way of telling people they needed to get their posting/thinking shit together. I have more than 36,000 saved and active PMs. I have only 4 PMs from tygre saved, none of which give any hint whatsoever as to any problem on the board, or off. I cannot believe I would delete any complaint PM as we have a policy to keep a paper trail on these things. I need the original PM forwarded to see what the issue is and to verify that I actually received something and took no action as you put it. If it was to another staff member and they took no action and didn’t inform me, then that’s a different matter.
That last line reads like a subtle “but for all we know you’re lying.” Or are you saying you don’t know where your specific funds went to?
I can’t find anything in any search I can perform that says or implies such. I have 5 PMs from you, all of which were polite exchanges.
This is why I’m stunned to see you do this to me. I have also searched e-mails on three accounts, archived and online PMs, and posts, and I can find no indication of anything wrong. Several times Fierra and I together, or with other staff, did bring the two of you up as a topic, the question always being “does anyone have any idea why Duke and tygre left?” and the answer always boiling down to “we don’t know.” People just get tired and leave and we figured it was just that. My community is less than 1/10 its size at its peak, mostly due to folks leaving for newer boards, and the favorite “old timers” like you and tygre were sorely missed by many, for many years.

I’m here, tygre’s here…if you’re upset with me that I didn’t contact you over a misunderstanding, why didn’t you or anyone else contact us when the shoe was on the other foot? I have to tell you, all this time I’ve assumed that we were unwanted. Nobody that I know–not you or anyone else–has ever asked me, “You’re not on the UnaBoard any more, what’s up with that?” Frankly I just assumed that we weren’t missed.
BTW not that it matters–as I know I have burned my bridges here irrevocably–it wasn’t in a PM. I don’t even know where the disagreement was or what it was about any more. My e-mail has been public on here and my board for 11 years. It also until a couple of years ago was in the “contact us” at the bottom header of every single page.
You’re going to have to take me at my word when I say that since Day 1 I never wanted to be someone who was needy and clingy and whinged about “why don’t you ever come to my plaaaaaace?” I don’t mail people, almost all the time, absolutely true, because I don’t want to sound like I’m begging them to come back to my board. Even when my own Mods drop off the face of the earth I might not mail them for a month or longer, because I never wanted to put pressure on them for doing a job for free. I can’t say anything other than I’m truly sorry I never asked, I just didn’t even want to have the appearance of being an insecure admin looking for more posts. It can be very difficult to separate acting as an admin and acting as a person.
It’s likely a moot point but if there was/were a complaint(s) which I received and I treated it callously, dismissively, or rudely, or did not take it seriously, then I would really like to see them. I won’t imply people are being untruthful but it has been a lot of years and it may be possible back in the day something was intended to be communicated to me and just wasn’t, due to accident or incident.

Rand Rover, I appreciate your support here and elsewhere, and I didn’t want to get tied up in side issues as this is another Sunday where I’m working all day, but you’re being unfair to Duke.
Duke is a highly intelligent and nice guy who I knew for a very long time, and from what I recall in his private life he was definitely a one of the good ones. When he and his wife were married - they met on my board - I so much wanted to be there, as they were two of my favorite people and joining their lives together would have been an event to cherish, but personal issues mandated I not, like always.
Duke and I have having a serious problem here over a profound misunderstanding, and I don’t know what your exchanges with him on this message board have been like, but despite all that he is highly undeserving of your categorization of as him. I know Bricker said it first, but I wanted to provide another data point.

This reminds me of an incident years ago when I was eating lunch with some people (pizza) and I brought up a story about how my grandmother never ate pizza until she was 80+ years old and when she did it was with a knife and fork because she was unaware of how it was normally eaten. I then brought up I was annoyed when people eat pizza with a fork since it’s traditionally hand food. Incidentally a guy I knew who was eating with us was nearly quadriplegic (paralyzed from the “shoulders down” and in his arms he only had movement of his triceps and two fingers on each hand, so not full quadriplegia but close) and he kind of bitchily brought up “well it’s a little hard when you have only two fingers on each hand to use.” That’s a bullshit thing for him to bitch about and I was under no obligation to avoid certain topics of discussion just because he might get mad about it.
I think I ended up saying “well you have an excuse, that’s not what I’m talking about.” What I wanted to say was “maybe next time you’ll be more careful when swerving between traffic on the interstate on a motorcycle.”
