Anyone else go to the Palm Springs Film Festival?

We go every year, for a few days.
We saw 6 films this year, two of which were notable:
(Untitled) (excellent).
Public Enemy Number One (very good).

There was also No Subtitles Necessary a nice homage to László Kovács and Vilmos Zsigmond, two Hungarians who had an enormous impact on Cinematography.

Anyone else see something they liked?

Missed it this year, dammit.

We went last year and enjoyed Passion and power: The Technology of Orgasm, a nice piece on the history of the vibrator.

I wasn’t there, and haven’t seen any of those, but I’m curious,

This sounds good. How was Vinnie Jones in this? What was his character like? I’ve liked him ever since Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. He’s been in some truly awful movies, but I guess it pays the bills. I’d like to see him in more serious stuff.

Oooh, I bet this was good. The combined clips alone would be worth seeing. I was shocked to find out that Kovács (RIP) had never even been nominated for an Oscar. He should have been nominated for Easy Rider, Paper Moon, and perhaps a few others. At least Zsigmond has been nominated 4 times, and has won once (for Close Encounters of the Third Kind).

What were the other movies you saw?

Vinnie plays and over-the-top artist who makes “shock art” from stuffed animals. He’s very good, although he has a pretty small role.

We also saw the world premier of Alien Trespass. Eric McCormick was in attendance, and was mobbed by cellphone-wielding fans. Unfortunately, the movie as only so-so - not bad, but pretty forgettable.

Let’s see - we also saw FierceLight: When Spirit Meets Action a disjointed documentary on non-violent protests.
I can’t remember what the last one was…
