Before, when I had Google open in a tab there would be a big blue G in the corner. This is also to the icon that appears to the left in the address bar. Now it’s some crazy-ass lowercase g surrounded by blue, yellow, red, and green fields. WTF Google? Your quasi-impressionist take on what’s good in a logo blows.
It’s terrible. I posted as much on facebook and had 4 other people agree with me. One friend compared it to the old 70’s style Twister logo. Absolutely horrendous. It’s unbalanced and lopsided.
Makes me want to hurl. No, not just hurl, but causes me to dry heave continuously for several minutes after viewing this assault on my senses. Then I go into a blind rage and start tearing apart kittens and puppies. Were it not for my skills with the Elder Sign, it would surely awake the Old Ones and lead to the end of the world.
I like it, but then I am a software product manager.
I admit I didn’t see the “g” for the first few days - I saw a series of regions broken up by white lines. It was like an abstract map to me, symbolizing the map that google provides through increasingly disparate data.
I like that concept in a logo for them.
When I noticed the “g”, that put it over the top for me. I might use slightly less saturated colors, but the basic logo, in a tiny square space, conveys a lot of important meaning for me.
I think it’s great. Of course when I first saw it, I was expecting the big blue G, so the shock caused me to fall out of my chair. Now, however, it really brightens up my day.
I like it. Kinda retro. Shows they’re still willing to switch things up, even after they became a bigshot company. Only problem is my searchbar icon is still the same ‘G on white background’ and I don’t like the discrepancy.
I think the reason it bothers me most is that it makes it difficult to locate among all of my tabs. For some reason I just can’t associate that symbol with google, and have trouble tabbing back to my search page. Grr.
