Anyone else hate the Apple MagSafe wireless charger?

For some background, Apple iPhones supported Qi charging since, I think, the iPhone X released in 2017. So I’ve been using wireless charging since then, initially with Samsung and Anker charging pads. Starting in 2020, Apple introduced its MagSafe wireless charger with the introduction of the iPhone 12. The charging pad is a flat disc like a large coin. So when I bought an iPhone 12 in 2020, I bought an Apple Magsafe charger but my iPhone 12 doesn’t successfully connect to it until I slowly and gradually move the phone around on the pad. On the other hand, the Samsung and Anker chargers, while not magnetic, are much more forgiving of approximate placement. So the Apple product sounds like a good idea but their execution sucks.

The 15W of charging is pretty impressive though for wireless. I bet that has a lot to do with the finicky placement.

I wasn’t aware that Samsung had a 15W charger until I looked it up right now. I wonder if it has finicky placement as well.

I’m still on older iPhones so I haven’t tried one, but do you have a case on your iPhone? I know that wireless chargers can be picky about which cases they work with and don’t.

I have an Otterbox case. I’ll try using the MagSafe charger without it but of course I want to use both.

Also, I’m usually charging the phone overnight, so I don’t really care about fast charging so a less finicky 10W charger would be fine.

I don’t have any trouble connecting my 12 Pro to the MagSafe puck, the magnets are so strong they basically suck the phone onto it.

I use this charger on my iPhone 13 pro plus. I like it a great deal more than my pervious non-Apple wireless charger, which was finicky and also had a weird shape that let the phone rotate with almost no force, so I’d often wake up and find charging had failed. The new one snaps quickly to position every time and stays there. Very pleased with it.

I had a larger puck third party charger that I bought for my Xs. It worked well but it was too big for my 13Pro. It sat awkwardly and had to be placed perfectly to work. I bought the Apple version and it’s fantastic. It just snaps on and works.

I have an Otterbox Defender case but not the version that claims MagSafe compatibility so perhaps that’s why I’m having problem. I just ordered the MagSafe version of the same case and perhaps that’s thinner enough to avoid the finicky issues.
