I can’t even contemplate the idea of going shopping on Black Friday - for one thing Christmas is a month away and it’s not even going to be on my radar until the 15th at the earliest. I despise crowds and traffic and I’m happy to sit at home and read and relish the fact that all the work of Thanksgiving is over. One bleeping holiday at a time, thank you.
A huge proportion of annual consumer purchases are related to Christmas (some consumer products more than others). It’s in the retailers’ and manufacturers’ best interest to encourage us to buy early, buy often, and buy high. The earlier they start the “christmas season” the longer they have to make their numbers.
Actually you got $2,792 off. The sticker price is meaningless. May have been partly because it was the latter part of the month, there was a recession, they were trying to make quota, and you were buying a car that was the prior model year.
I have always had Thur and Fri off for Thanksgiving. Thur is the family day to get together. Friday is my day and I usually have a few projects I’m trying to accomplish before winter really gets going. Invariably there will be some unforseen problem that requires me to go to one of the big box home improvement or auto parts stores to get a tool or something. Always a nightmare, traffic, lines, horrible Christmas music.
This year as soon as I realize I need to go into town on BF, I’m going to pop a beer and drink until I no longer give a shit whether my stupid project gets done.
I love Black Friday; I stay home and relax and wait for the mayhem (I work in a shipping center) that runs the next week from all the other people who stayed home and shopped online instead of relaxing.
Ted Cruz is My Jr Senator. I don’t waste my hate on Black Friday. Some folks are into Competition Shopping. I’m not.
So let others bust those doors before sunrise. I’ve got the day off & might drop by the neighborhood nursery for some pansies. It’s been too warm for them so far but the chill is coming…
