My daughter came over and we’re watching, as we do most years. I like seeing the artists, and know about a quarter of the songs.
The Tracy Chapman/Luke McComb duet was special.
Anyone else here?

No.
eta: I mean YES!
Love that they got Chapman out so the young’uns get to see whose song it was. Billie Eyelash was good, too, in a “match the soundtrack” way… (I’m just watching for Trevor Noah).
I made them consistent! May have screwed up yer post, tho.
Seeing Tracy Chapman gave me all kinda happiness.
I’m watching in part to see what the kids are listening to these days. SZA? Who? (I actually sorta liked her song and performance).
Also tuning in to see Joni.
mmm
Olivia Rodrigo is so freaking great.
ETA I wondered how they would deal with those lyrics…
Miley killed too. My daughter and her friend (both 18) agreed she was great and they aren’t actually fond of Miley.
As if I hadn’t already had my fill of Taylor Swift now I get to watch her stand/dance/sing along with each performance, often being the only one in the audience doing so.
mmm
Posted by me in the Taylor thread:
We might be seeing the beginning of a backlash. Her announcement of a new album during her acceptance speech at the Grammys felt both manufactured and disrespectful to the other artists there. To the extent I’m willing to read the camera shots of their reactions, they were generally NOT happy.
I am and have been a huge fan of Taylor, but it doesn’t have to be about her ALL THE TIME - especially coming directly after Olivia Rodrigo’s performance.
Yeah, same reaction here.
It’s the same lyrics as on the radio edit. That’s kinda what I figured they would do.
Didn’t even really think about the Swift announcement. I guess I could see how that may have not been the best venue to announce it if I were squinting hard enough. I’m kinda excited now with an album title like “The Tortured Poets Department.”
Weirdly I’ve never heard it on the radio, but that makes sense.
Yeah, the radio edit kinda annoys me, but, well, gotta do something to play it on terrestrial radio. They replace “fame fucker” with “dream crusher” and silence the “god” in “god damned vampire.”
I watched the first hour. Mostly I was saddened for poor Trevor, trapped wandering around tables of famous people, having to say how fabulous each and every one of them was, even the empty seats there because the really super famous people come in last and got delayed.
“Fast Car” is the last song in the world any white man should be covering. I thought my head would explode when I first heard of the Comb’s cover and it didn’t get better when Chapman and Combs sang the duet.
At least someone at the Grammys played an instrument while they sang.

Cannot believe Vampire didn’t win. Hopefully it wins record of the year instead.
Rapper gets 3 awards then arrested and taken out in handcuffs? Was that live?
I admit I don’t really enjoy these old moments of reverence. My daughter didn’t know who she is, so I muted the tv and played Big Yellow Tax on the Echo.
Not live, it was pre-show, but there’s video of it on Xitter.
Ooof. Tough category. I’m looking at the competition and, honestly, any one of them can win. I want Olivia to win something today. Guts is my favorite album of last year. That said, I’m not super hot on “Vampire,” so I wouldn’t be surprised if it doesn’t win. It’s a solid tune, but there may be some of the competition I prefer.
I thought Joni Mitchell’s performance was incredibly moving
Wow. Different perspectives. I thought it was super cool that they sang it as duet. Combs has been about very vocal about how much the song touched him and influenced him.
Tracy herself has also been supportive of his cover (obviously) although the financial aspect might influence that, but it did seem like they had some real chemistry during the duet.
On other topics, Brandi Carlisle’s fan-girl moment with Joni was awesome - and I love that song. I agree with @FinsToTheLeft, that was moving.
