…whether it makes you talk to the person next to you? And I don’t mean to a stranger. I want to the movie that DOES THAT!

Of course it doesn’t count if you just naturally do so.

For myself I can only think of two in the last few decades.

Silence of the Lambs and…The Hateful Eight. Quibble about the worth of the last film, but there’s certainly intensity and mystery to it. My GF actually was nodding off (which is ok, it was late and she gets sleepy easily)…until the poison scene. She didn’t nod off again.

The reverse is true in my case. Out with my wife once I sat silently loathing the movie we were watching. Every time I glanced at her she was watch with rapt attention. Eventually I glanced at her once as she happened to look at me. She pulled a face. I asked her, “Aren’t you enjoying this?” She replied, “No I thought you were.” So we left and went out to eat. We also made a pact to speak up in future as soon as we decided a movie was garbage.
