Surely I can’t be the only one… I’m not even that old but it seems like it was years ago now. Do you remember? Folks everywhere wore masks on their faces, not to hide their identities from the police but to control the spread of germs. Seems crazy now, I know.
The disease was called Cove ID or something and the virus was SARS or MERS or something similar. I read the other day that the virus is still circulating and can still make you sick but of course in the “new normal” nobody worries about that anymore. Besides… what if you DID catch it? What can you do? Are you going to travel through the lawless streets to get to a hospital? Are the hospitals still standing?
Yeah, it seems like years ago but then again, sometimes it feels like it was only yesterday.
I feel like we’re all just characters in a Hieronymus Bosch painting.
I seem to recall that it was very important that there be no large gatherings of people, even outdoors and with masks. But that seems like a long time ago.
After it was over, they replaced the truly GREAT sports like Marble Racing, Cornhole Tossing, Ax Throwing, Cliff Diving, 30 year old World Series games and 157 showings of “The Last Dance” with the so-called MORE POPULAR(??) Major League Baseball, NFL, NBA and NHL.
And people actually used to LIKE these!!
Over 20,000 cases again today. Seems to be flattening, but not going down. Deaths remain around 700 - 1000 daily.
If there is no change for the better (and it does not seem like people understand it), then we’re looking probably at steady state for the next 3 months at best.
Prediction: by the end of August in the USA; 2.5 million cases, 175,000 deaths. Then the flu season starts to kick in and all bets are off.
