Anyone else watch the concert for Diana?

The lineup did not wow me either (except for Supertramp), but I could see why the princes did what they did.
Here was the media playing up the ten year anniversary.
Here was her birthday.
Didn’t their mum like a night of music? So have a concert, and give to charity.
This will probably come up again, and the next time, they might choose a different way to approach it.

I mean no disrespect, but I just wish there wouldn’t be a next time. I think it’s going to do more damage than good to her memory from here on.

I watched it and I enjoyed it. Since I have yet to see a day-long concert that caters to my individual taste in music, there were acts that I didn’t care for and I just chose those performances to do something else. I always like to see Elton John, Duran Duran was fun to watch, and Bryan Ferry, Lily Allen, Take That, and The Feeling were new to me and I really liked those performances.
I wouldn’t say I’m a particular Diana fan; I guess I don’t really have an opinion about her, since I didn’t know her. But I do know what it’s like to lose a mother and I’m inclined to cut her sons some slack in how they chose to acknowledge the anniversary of her birth (and death, since it will be noted anyway by the media). Apparently, proceeds from the ticket sales went to three charities designated by the princes. There are worse ways to honor one’s mother.

Let’s see. A concert in memory of a woman I didn’t care about when she was alive and care even less about now that she’s been dead for a decade, filled with performers I either don’t like or wouldn’t go out of my way to watch, when Wimbledon and the Sunday morning political talk shows were on? I don’t think so. This ain’t exactly Live 8.

They’re the sons who had to read from their hands for a 30 second speech when I was flipping through the channels last night. Their grandmother could live to be a thousand years old and you’d never see her squinting at her palm to figure out what she’s going to say next.

Actually, Wimbledon didn’t have any matches on Sunday. I don’t remember them suspending play on Sunday in prior years, but I was surprised to see that they just recapped the week.

Nothing to add really, since I didn’t watch the concert, but Wimbledon traditionally suspends play on Sundays (only having to schedule play 3 times (1991, 1997, 2004) on Sundays because of rain delays).

I meant the middle Sunday, traditionally.
