LunaSea, you’re not a freak. Everybody’s different, and we’re all together on this big blue marble! That’s why Baskin Robbins makes 31 — oops. You’re screwed.
Do you mean you like the meat to have some fat in it, so it flavors and tenderizes the meat?
Or do you mean you like to munch on the actual fat particles themselves? YUCK!!!
My best friend in high school always did that. I like the meat-nice, juicy, flavorful. Not that slippery, slimy chewy thing…ew ew ew!!! It’s all rubbery and slick!
Stoid, I too enjoy the taste of fat. However, I like the “hard” fats, i.e. the crispy skin of turkey or chicken, crisp bacon, and the charred fat on a medium steak. The texture of “soft” fat doesn’t appeal to me. One story I remember is several years ago my sister used to get my mom upset when she asked for the fat on the roast beef. My mom thought my sister would would get sick. My sister is slim and very athletic now.
I was discussing this with my wife while we gorged ourselves on a broiled rib something or other last night. It was a fabulous slab of meat. Worth the expense because it was big enough for the both of us. She asked me how I picked it since she tends to pick lean chewy cuts. I told her I was flipping through the cuts and this one spoke to me. It had all the requisite sections, shot through with various amounts of fat. If one section was lacking fat, I’d cut a little hunk off another and add it on to my bite. Sheer succulent bliss.

If you only knew the power of partially hydrogenated soybean oil!

** medstar, ** the difference between the hard and soft fats for me is that the crispy fat can be eaten all by itself. I can and do eat bits and chunks of fried stead fat and chicken skin, etc. The soft fat I enjoy only in conjunction with the meat, and then it is heaven. It’s like a sort of built-in dressing or sauce, adding moisture and flavor to each bite of the meat.
Gotcha, Stoid. I’m back on the Atkins diet, so I’m looking forward to ingesting even more animal fat. Life is Good.
