Anybody ever heard of Afri-cola? It’s a soft drink with their own website, but I have never seen it here in New Jersey. Anyone ever had it or know what it takes like?
Haven’t had it myself, but Bevnet seems to have liked it. A+ rating. http://www.bevnet.com/reviews/africola/index.asp
I haven’t heard “Afri-Cola” in a looooong time…
It was a big seller in Germany years ago - don’t know if it still is.
The bottle itself was sorta cool - think miniature Dimple bottle.
The cola itself was so-so. It was not quite as carbonated as the Coke/Pepsi drinks, and maybe a bit sweeter than either of them as well.
Still, it was better than a lot of imitation colas sold on the lower shelves of WalMart today.
Thanks for the walk down memory lane!
I read this and immediately thought of the bit Phil Hendrie did with the guy who was going to market “Soul Coke.” It was Coke in a 40 oz bottle and a brown wrapper. He said it went well with barbecue chips…
Ohhh lordy, some people got upset.
When I was in Junior High in the early 1970s, we drove around Germany for a month and a half seeing the sights. There was no Pepsi anywhere to be found, but there was Coke, there was Afri-Cola (which I found more to my liking than Coke), and they also had this generic stuff simlar to a 7UP or a Sprite they called “limonade”, which did not appear to have a brand name (maybe they made it themselves from lemon juice and carbonated water and sugar?).
There was also a very nice noncarbonated juice called johannesbeer. (No, not beer as in “beer”, that would be bier instead. Beer in German = berry).
No
Yes.
Found it here in Seattle.
It was, as I recall sweeter and less carbonated than either Coke or Pepsi.
The bottle was kind of neat with cut-outs on each side.
I also liked the slogan;
“kein vergnugen ohne gefar”
translation: “no plesure without danger”
Argh!
Make that pleasure.
That’s what you get for posting way after your bed time.
