Anyone ever purchased/used a stamp maker?

One something like this: http://www.art-rubberstamps.com/

What do you think of it (and which one specifically have you used)? Was it worth the money? Is there some way to get refills of whatever the machine uses to make the rubber part of the stamp?

And can you make nice, solid images from the stamps? Last question, I swear: can you use acrylic paint instead of ink?

Thank you very much.

I’ve never tried the stamp maker but I have an etcher made by the same company which I could never really get to work great. I also have the stencil maker which I never ended up trying because I couldn’t get the etcher to work. I was just thinking the other day I ought to pull it out and try it.

I am quite sure you can get refills of the supplies, that seems to be a large part of the company’s business plan.

I don’t think you will get great results with acrylic paints and rubber stamps. I’ve used paints with the really chunky foam rubber stamps but I don’t think you will be able to get any fine details. If you want to use acrylics you might be better off with their stencil maker, which is really more like a silk screen maker. The stencils have a fine mesh backing so you can have cut-out shapes without the center falling out.

I recently found an offer from that same company where they would send you a free sample of a stencil. I can’t find it now (their web sites are really random) but if you just ask their customer service they would probably send you one. If you don’t want to invest in the stencil maker they will also make custom stencils for you.

There are other brands of screen printers around you might want to look into if you want to print with acrylics. There is the Gocco printer but that has been discontinued so supplies may be hard to find. Other brands I know of are Photoez and Yudu screen printer. I think Speedball also makes a kit for making them the old fashioned way.

Sorry, I guess this turned into a post about stencils and silk screens, but for acrylic paints I think that is a better way to go if you want to get any kind of fine detail. Hopefully someone who knows more about the rubber stamp maker will come along.

If you don’t get an answer here you might want to try posting your question to someplace like craftster.org

Information on stencils is great! I didn’t know about the stencils with mesh, which is why I started thinking stamps in the first place instead. I’m looking to use lots of little stamps/stencils repeatedly, several of which have cut out shapes that would require me making stencils with little “bridges” holding pieces in place and then going back and painting those areas in. I didn’t know there were stencils that corrected that. Thank you for all that information!

I do not need to spend $300 on more craft supplies. I already have more than enough. I do NOT need to spend $300 on more craft supplies. I already have more than enough. I DO NOT NEED…

But oh, do I WANT.
