Specifically the Regal movie theater. I have a free pass to see The Social Network on Thursday, but it’s there, and I’ve never been there, and I don’t have a car. According to the RTA Trip Planner, I can get there easily enough, since I work right next to the Jefferson Park transportation hub and I have multiple bus choices (Pace #226 to the Niles Center, then #97 to Old Orchard, or, #81 Lawrence to Cicero, then #54A North to Old Orchard). But it seems that Old Orchard is so big, there are multiple stops, the Macys Stop, the Nordstrom stop and others. Where is the movie theater so I can get off the bus closest to the theater? Is it closer to Golf Rd. or Old Orchard road? Is it closer to Lawler or Skokie Blvd?
I haven’t been there in years, but I seem to remember the theater is on the south side of the mall. I’d recommend giving them a phone call and ask for their Public Transportation recommendations.
PS - please post a review in Cafe Society after you see the flick!
It’s closer to the corner of Golf and Skokie Blvd. I think the #97 goes around back which works as well. There are two movie theater complexes there; 1-6 and 7-13. I can never remember which is in the front by Maggianos and which is in back by the parking lots. They aren’t that far from each other, maybe a 5 minute leisurely stroll.
Skokie Blvd is all torn up for construction so if you can, get off the bus around back.
I’m not a good reviewer, but I will probably post something. It’ll be the 201st movie I’ve seen in the theater so far this year. I’ve been on a crazy movie theater movies streak this year, but this will only be the 6th free screening pass I’ve gotten all year. Normally I wouldn’t go up to Skokie just because other theaters are easier and quicker to get to, but this seems like a special occasion. The screening will be wildly popular. I get off at 4pm and will go there immediately to get in line. The less time spent walking around trying to find the theaters the better, which is why I asked.
Fixed it for you. You’ve seen 201 movies so far this year? That’s about five a week. I didn’t realize there had been that many movies in general release.
I see all kinds of films, not just general release films. Here’s my thread about my crazy movie-going and the films I’ve seen. As I mention in that thread, getting a membership at the Gene Siskel Film Center really upped the total, because for $50, now all movies are $5 for me. I got my membership in late May, and since then I’ve seen 59 films there. There’s an odd psychological difference between paying full price, and getting a discount. Now I see all kinds of movies I wouldn’t have gone to see otherwise, from odd little indies to old film noirs. “Do I really want to pay for and see that? Oh, what the hell, it’s only $5.00!” I’ve had a blast.
We, a co-worker and I, found the theater ok, thanks again. It wasn’t the one closest to the main bus stop, but as you said MikeG, it was just a short walk away through a beautiful courtyard, and across from a Johnny Rockets. Old Orchard is really something, very impressive. I didn’t know there were any huge indoor/outdoor shopping malls like that left, and it seems to be thriving, with lots of high-end stores.
It was easy to get there by bus (we took a short ride from the Jefferson Park hub on the #81 Lawrence to Cicero, then the #54A Cicero bus north which dropped us right there), and easy to get back home (the #97 Skokie bus to Howard and California, then the #93 California bus south, which dropped me off a half a block from my house). I had no idea it would be so easy! I don’t see myself going there for normal movies, because everything there would play at theaters closer to me, but if I get another free screening pass, I’ll go.
The Social Network is GREAT btw! Even though I got a free pass, I’d pay to see it again.
