Is anyone familiar with Pace Bend Park or Lake Travis? It’s about 30 miles west of Austin.
I’m considering doing the Trek Women’s Triathlon next month that will be there. This wasn’t the original planned site, but was changed recently to this for some reason. What is it like around there?
Here’s the map, and google images has pictures of what the park trails look like. The area is classic Hill Country, but I don’t recall any big hills in the park or on FM 2322, which leads to the park.
My guess is that the bike route will run on the loop road inside the park (FM 2322 and Grisham Trail), and the running loop will be on the park roads at the North end of the park. Too bad that Google Street View doesn’t go into the park.
I have fond memories of the park. Did some naked cliff jumping there in my college days (not exactly a typical activity for the park, mind).
Anyway, yeah, it’s a fairly nice, typical Hill Country park. You might get a better view than the above link by just entering Pace Bend Park into Google Maps. Zoom out a bit and you can see that that part of the lake is a more a swollen section of the Colorado River from the damming, so it’s fairly narrow and winds through the hills and some cliffs. The park is surrounded by the lake on three sides from the bend in the river there (Pace Bend).
Not sure what you’re looking for, but there’s no reason to dislike the park that I know of.
