Anyone following the Casey Anthony trial?

I hadn’t thought of that but yeah, the jurors will find it interesting, hearing stuff they couldn’t hear before.

Can the jurors keep their privacy after it’s all over?

the ONLY hook baez can hang the suicide / note on is that george faked the suicide attempt

which would be a 180 from what Baez has said so far - which would only serve to show the jury that Baez really doesn’t have a defense for his client.

Has he proven any of the facts that he said he would in his opening statement? WHat facts has he proven that show Casey did not kill Caylee (and that george did)?

Mind you - I’m not saying he has to prove his statements - his only job is to create ‘reasonable doubt’ - but generally you don’t make the kinds of statements he did without some actual evidence.

Or maybe I just watch too much tv.

The closings should be interesting.

That’s a scared looking guy. I think 6 days is draconian but I can’t feel much sympathy; it was such a dick thing to do, and I’m guessing it will have complete success in stopping him from doing it again.

The only explanation I can fathom for why a 28 year old is at the trial, and why he flipped off the prosecutor, is that he has the hots for Casey and thinks she’s innocent. If he isn’t already writing her in jail, I bet he will be now that he has some extra time on his hands.

The talking heads at CNN are making a big deal out of trying to read Casey’s lips when her dad was testifying today. They think she’s saying “son of a bitch” but that’s not at all what I’m seeing.

And how lame has the TV commentary/coverage been? Loudmouth lawyers, bail bondsmen (or is Padilla a bounty hunter?), body language experts, criminologists, psychologists – everything but a phrenologist and a psychic. None of them with much insight and none of them really going into the legalities. I’ve learned more about trial practice from this thread than from them.

Once the Birdman of Orlando starts making the talk show rounds, he’ll come out ahead in the matter. It was rather stupid. Flipping off Ashton to his back. Actually, I’m surprised he was caught doing it. Someone must be really watching the spectators carefully.

If I were Casey, I’d be praying the jury didn’t come back with a guilty verdict, because this judge has only one sentencing speed. MAx.

They are being watched VERY carefully. I’ve heard several reports of spectators being ushered out for sleeping, texting, making noises that are distracting to the jury, or reacting too strongly to the testimonies.

George wipes his hands when he leaves stand yesterday. Looks like he was doing this towards Casey… http://www.wftv.com/video/28417828/index.html

I read that the court was made aware of the incident when the local TV station taping the trial pointed it out by showing a picture to court officials who then showed it to the judge.

I thought it odd that during sentencing his income is $15,000 per year, that he lives alone, his expenses are $1,500 per month, and that he has a couple of hundred dollars in checking and savings combined, and he owns no property (or none worth more than $4,000), but then when asked how much time he needed to come up with $600+ in court costs and fine he said “I can pay it now”. Either his parents are subsidizing him (which if so he’s a bit old for) or he’s got side money coming in.

If I were his manager at TGI Fridays I doubt I’d fire him (assuming he’s an okay employee) because he’ll be bringing in the patrons for a couple of weeks. Plus, it was an ultra stupid thing to do but nobody was hurt and I think 6 days in jail more than clears him with the house. I’d have probably given him overnight plus the fine and then probation, or, to quote Esteban from Kill Bill 2, “maybe just cut him a little bit”.

Wow. I just saw the video of him flipping the bird and it was VERY minor and subtle. I’m not surprised nobody noticed at the time, and I think even the camera got lucky to catch it at the time they just happened to be pointing in that direction. The kid was sitting in the back, and he was just wiping his face when he just ended the wipe with his middle finger and made a slight face. Yes, it was still stupid and wrong to do, but I was picturing a much more overt and extended hand gesture for getting 6 days in jail. If his public defender appeals and shows the video, I wouldn’t be surprised if that sentence was reduced.

Well, if his 6 days any anything like Lohan-time, he’ll not only by out by lunch, he probably won’t have time for a mug shot. 6 days is a draconian punishment, though. And I did the math with his finances, and came up with the same numbers, Sampiro. As a server, $15K is probably what he reports to the IRS. His tips might be a lot higher.

StG

So if he is appealing the decision, does that mean the 6 days is suspended until the appeal or is he already serving?

Has anybody noticed the HUGE guy sitting behind the prosecutor’s table? He’s of a size that would probably require two seats on an airplane. It’s one of those “why is he there?” things as well. (Not saying morbidly obese people don’t have a right to go in public, but why would somebody so obviously unhealthy want to spend time watching a boring court proceeding [and for every ‘scintillating’ minute in the testimony there’s half an hour of monotonous droning].)

Regarding the Birdman of Orlando (ha!, btw), is one not allowed to pay fines by credit card in Florida?

so - it just occurred to me - the defense expert witness on ‘grief’ - pretty much said that everything Casey did during the month Caylee was missing would be ‘in line with’ what a person might do if they had lost a child due to death (or I assume loss in any way) -

Didn’t that just prove that Casey was well aware that Caylee was already dead/gone and not 'at the nanny’s?"

IOW all her actions can be explained by someone grieving - not someone ‘searching for a missing child’.

or did I miss something more subtle?

That had already been established.

Spectators are not allowed to bring phones into the courtroom. Even the credentialed media are only allowed electronic devices with touchscreens instead of keyboards.

I guess thats true as well - I was reffering to the charges of lieing to the police -

Her whole defense has been based on that it was an accident, that she knew Caylee was dead, and that she lied to police about the nanny etc. because she was brought up to lie by her molesting father.
