Anyone from Springfield, Illinois?

I’m a new kid here in Springfield.

It looks like there might have been a dopefest here at some point but haven’t heard much about a get-together lately.

Anyone wanna meet up for a beer? meet the new kid in town?

Tibs

Here you go.

Welcome

Run far, run fast, get the hell out of this town

But, if you must stay, we’re holding the local Dopefest in April. According to Flyp, at least…follow psycat90’s link above.

Hey while I am here time for a Blatant Hijack!
:: loading gun and putting on Al Gore mask::

I need a Springfield Illinois Doper with some time on there hands and wiling to do a quick research for me at the local library.
Anyone interested, e-mail me at Osipmand@aol.com

make sure to put Osip and SDMB somewhere in the title so I do not delete it as junk.

Thanks in advance.

Here’s the Springfield roster, as I know it:

Myself
David B He’s a moderator; you should bow
Flypsyde

Dyno Sour

Also, Duck Duck Goose, and her daughter, The Cat Who Walks Alone, are from “Downstate Illinois,” but I’m not sure where.

And some afternoon when you’ve got time, head for D’Arcy’s at Town & Country Shopping Center (2500-something South MacArthur) and order a pork tenderloin horseshoe. You’ll feel like you’ve died and gone to heaven.

Or, if you want to meet for lunch, send an “e” to rastahomie@hotmail.com.

Well, believe it or not, D’arcy’s is a hop skip and a jump from where I work and so we often walk over there for lunch. And the only kind of horseshoe I’ve eaten there is their tenderloin horseshoe. You aren’t kidding about how good it is. YUM!

Fan-freakin-tastic.

I heard that I should try the Red Coach Inn for horseshoes, too. Everyone is very particular about their cheese sauces.

Thanks to everyone for the welcome. I’m glad the days are getting longer so I have more time to explore Springfield.

Tibs.

Well, let me suggest a couple of places you might enjoy:

The I-Don’t-Know-The-Name-of-the-Place Art Gallery (730-something N. 4th St.) is an art gallery in an old, restored mansion. Pretty cool if art is your thing.

The Susan Lawrence Dana House (4th & Lawrence) is a Frank Lloyd Wright-designed house that’s really cool.

A basketball game at Springfield Southeast High School (2350 E. Ash): ever seen a High School basketball game played on carpet?

I am new to Springfield but I did live here briefly for 2 months during the summer between my Junior and Senior year in Undergrad. I lived off of 7th street (yikes!) and worked at The Care Center - a pregnancy center where I gave pregnancy tests, helped mothers, etc. Just a 2 month stint of social service. It was during those 2 months that I first tried a horseshoe and I gotta ask:

Who the heck decided to make a nice tidy cheeseburger into a big messy pile of food?

First, I’m not complaining because, damn, DELISH. But who the heck came up with this? (Oooo, question for Cecil…)

I haven’t been to the art gallery - that sounds like fun. I do like art quite a bit.

I’ve seen the Dana Thomas house. Love Frank Lloyd Wright so that was very neat.

And I can only assume you are kidding about the carpet and basketball - what’s going on there??

I have no idea who invented the horseshoe. And I’ll tell you now that it’s a matter of great controversy around here, as no one seems to know for sure who did and several establishments claim to have invented the “original” horseshoe. My money is on the Red Coach Inn.

And I’m not kidding about the carpet & basketball. I went to Southeast High School (class of '88) and played on that very surface.

As to why it’s carpeted- long story. I’ll explain it at Spiffle II.

Well, I used to live in Peoria. If people are telling you to get out of Springfield don’t run there. It’s worse.

But what I really wanted to ask – “Don’t the Simpsons live in Springfield?”

Well, I don’t know who first created the horseshoe, but they are certainly one of my favorite people on the planet.

Red Coach Inn is pretty good, and I’m kinda partial to the 'shoes at the B&G Cafe, too…

But, anyway…beer sounds good. Sometimes. More often than not, actually. So, if you still want to go for one sometime, my email’s in my profile.

Hey there, Dyna!

I’m e-mailing you so we can go get a beer. Anyone else want to join in?
