I am very seriously considering taking on the planning for a Springfield, Illinois Dopefest.
I have not chosen a date for any gathering because I wanted to get a feel for any interest and what works best for everyone.
Who might be able to make it out here and any particular months favored over others? I know we are fast approaching winter and while I’d love to meet up this fall, I know that many of you may have quite packed schedules.

I would love to be there, Tibs. But October is already pretty shot, and November isn’t looking too much better. But I’m definitely interested and will make it if I can.
Early November would be best for me.
I just reviewed my schedule. My October is filled to the gills. November is better. After that, I think we would need to go into next year. I’m sorry for the short notice.
In November, I have the 5th (Tuesday) off of work and the 11th off of work which lends me to those weekends immediately prior. (Recovery time)
If we do a fall gathering (Fun!) - how do the weekends of November 2-3 or November 9-10 strike people?

Just a note that the proposed November 2-3 conflicts with Halloween OhDope (presuming it actually comes together).

The 9th - 10th is preferable to me, as it happens.
I should have checked the OhDope dates; it may be that having two Dopefest so close in time is like shooting myself in the foot.
I am still willing to have a gathering that weekend, even if it is small.

Not necessarily. Last October some die-hard dopers (IIRC, thinksnow as well as me) did 3 dopefest weekends in a row - The Quiet ChiDope, DopetoberFest (LA), and Halloween OhDope. I, for one, am not capable of that this year, though.
Nov. 9-10 would be great for me.

On June 17, 2000, several of us (Cabbage, dcnewsman, SqrlCub, Falcon, and myself) attended Dopefests in Raleigh, NC and in Greenbelt, MD (just outside of DC) on the same day.

I can make an attempt, if anyone’ll be getting a carpool going from O’Hare (bus stop there).
Just checked…train fare from Chicago to Springfield is a mere $40 round trip. I’m there.
Just think, Gundy, I can wave as you get off the train and you can think to yourself, “Who is that yahoo??”

Well, that very same weekend (November 9-10) there might be a Unafest in Florida. Let me check with galen ubal on that and, if I don’t have to kill myself to avoid choosing, I’d more to happy to be there and meet you and the other Dopers.
