I’m thinking of signing up to join one of MoveOn’s GOTV phone banks tomorrow. Anyone involved in any of these activities?
All this weekend, I’ve been working on getting AFSCME members out to vote in Missouri (the gubernatorial race is tight). Today, I did more of the same, visiting worksites and housecalling. Tomorrow, I’ll be phone-banking members to make sure they made it to the polls.
Hopefully, somebody will be Ging-OTV for all those people I registered in Ohio last month.
If Kerry/Edwards and Claire McCaskill lose, it won’t be for lack of effort on Happy’s part.
Happy
Been on MoveOn PAC calling duty last two weeks. (I could happily go the rest of my life without ever touching another telephone.) Early-phase stuff, identifying the folks who say they’ll vote Kerry so you folks have a list of who to go remind and/or pick up and drive to the polls, and also cull out the wrong numbers and changed numbers and so forth.
Keep the faith.
I’m supposed to go door to door with the League of Conservation Voters reminding previously identified Kerry supporters to vote. However, I’m so burned out personally by all the calls I’ve gotten in the last week, I’m seriously considering not participating. I swear, if one more person asks me to vote (I voted early last week), I’m going to scream.
Did you vote?
Oh sorry, but I make it a point never to read the last sentence of a post before replying to it.
That’s it! I’m going out and voting for BUSH tomorrow, and that’ll show all of you!!!
Ahem. Excuse me. I’m not myself this week.
Maybe I’ll be in a better mood tomorrow. Tell me, do you all think it’ll make a difference to people who’ve already been contacted at least once, have indicated they strongly support Kerry, and have been given copious amounts of information and assistance with a) absentee ballots, b) early voting, and/or c) polling places whether or not I personally turn up on their doorstep to be absolutely, positively sure they actually voted? I’m having my doubts.
I was reading some posts on Daily Kos, and I’m starting to wonder if I really want to make these calls tomorrow. People are saying that Kerry supporters in swing states are sick of their phones ringing off the hook. Some get angry and slam down the phone.
We’ve been getting at least three calls a day for the past week. Yesterday, we got five calls, and today it was six. I’ve hung up on my governor, Bill Clinton, Al Gore (I think), Elizabeth Edwards, and my favorite state senator. When it’s an actual human being, I manage to be nice, but I’m tired. I voted, dammit. I voted for Kerry. Now leave me alone!
And I’ve been actively working to get the vote out myself, so I can’t imagine the average voter’s feeling any more tolerant.
I had no idea people were getting so many phone calls until I read it here. No one has ever called me or anyone I know regarding the election so it’s hard to imagine.
Every night there’s been at least two phone calls from various politicians. Last night, there were three calls. It’s gotten so bad that I’ve turned off my answering machine during the day (the machine was filled, absolutely FILLED with political phone calls).
I’ll be so glad when this is all over. Of course, that means that no one will call me and I’ll be lonely again…
