I don’t mean to brag, but I’ve had Ben Stein and George W. Bush himself call and ask me personally to vote tomorrow. And vote republican…because " We’ve been through a lot in the last four years…"
I’ve had Kerry and Bush call me, Clinton (twice), Darrell Waltrip, Russ Feingold, and someone else who I forget. That’s just the ones I’ve answered. I’ve not picked up lots of “out of areas” in the last month or so.
I actually don’t mind most of the crap, but the phone calls are over the line, IMO. Wonder how powerful the phone spam lobby is or if there’s a chance of getting this crap curtailed or eliminated by the next go-round.
The only even remotely interesting person we had call was Mark Wellstone, son of the late Sen. Paul Wellstone (MN-DFL) who died in a plane crash two years ago.
I hung up on Wesley Clark last night, and he called me back 5 minutes later! :eek:
Although I’m registered as independent (or unenrolled), I seem to have made the Flaming Liberal List[sup]tm[/sup], which would explain the recent calls from Amy Madigan (for NARAL) and Carl Pope (executive director of the Sierra Club).
Zell Miller also called to tell me why he’s a Bush democrat.
I’ve also had calls from people who identify themselves as relatives of 9/11 victims, which really creeps me out. I mean, they have a right to endorse whoever they want obviously, but it’s basically only one step away from having the candidate anoint himself with the ashes of 9/11, IMHO.
Oh yeah, and then there are the call-center folks who urge me to vote to protect “towns like ours” and the mispronounce the name of the state capital. :rolleyes:
I got both oversized postcards and phone calls from Ed Koch. He’s stumping for a Jewish Republican group (the RJC–the Republican Jewish Committee, I think, whoever they are), and he wants me to vote for George W.
“I am Rudy Giuliani. You must forgive Dubya. I am Rudy Giuliani. You must forgive Dubya…”
<OSr>
When I lived in Ohio, I got a call from someone claiming he was Dennis Kucinich and he’d do anything for my vote – as a matter of fact, he’d like to take me out to breakfast. I hung up, assuming it was a crank call, as politicians can’t offer anything of value in exchange for a vote – and what was Dennis gonna do, take me to the polls on Election Day and follow me into the booth to make sure I opted for him in the race for my district’s U.S. Representative seat?
Kucinich taking you for breakfast? You’d be at some vegan place…
Caroline Kennedy called me.
I figured it was a birthday call, as hers is the day before mine(26th)
I’m so sad. Nobody likes me! It must be this red state I live in. Or possibly I smell and nobody will tell me. (NOW hasn’t stopped sending me mail, though, and while I generally agree with them in principal I’ve got to break it off with them because they’re getting kinda psycho in their communications and I don’t know if I need an entire organization stalking me.)
