Anyone have a Panasonic camcorder? Help, please!!!

Just got a PV-GS34, a nice little DVR camera.

Unfortunately we cannot figure out how to get the video onto a PC. the instruction manual is very poorly written and doesn’t really explain how to do it except “Install the software.”

However, the PC (Win XP SP 2, good computer) won’t recognize the camera when hooked up to the USB port. It just thinks it’s a removeable disk and asks us to insert media. The software says the same thing.

Damned if we can figure this out. Anyone have any ideas?

I have an AG DVX100A. I just plug it into the Mac with Firewire, and capture it with Final Cut Pro. I’ll see if I can find an answer for your situation.

Judging from the information imparted in this ad, half-way down page, this is not a Mini DV camera. No Firewire, most likely. It mentions iWire. I’m not familiar with this. It is very likely that you must load up the software before the camera will be recognized as anything other than an externally mounted USB storage device. If it can take stills, it is likely being seen as a still provider, and not a video footage provider.

How new is your XP machine, and does it have a FireWire input? You could get a Hollywood Dazzle digitizer and digitize the footage, and use Avid Express or another video editing package.

Or, use what came with it, and try identifying the footage that way…

Let us know !!

Good Luck.
