Anyone have "Black Market Music"?

It’s by the band Placebo.

Yes, I know. There are ten million(or a few less) threads on this subject, but I have not seen this CD mentioned anywhere(pardon me if it was). It’s new(at least here in the US) and great. The only song I don’t like is a re-release of a song done by Placebo on an earlier album. It is a duo with the band’s lead singer Brian Molko and David Bowie. In my opinion, Bowie ruined the song.

Well, enough with such pettiness. I just want to know who else has it, wants to buy it, or hates/loves the band.

Or am I all alone, listening to this CD?:frowning:

Well, to be honest, I thought Black Market Music was horrible. I bought it as an import a few weeks ago and have tried listening to it several times, but it’s just lifeless. No real stand-outs and if you want to compare it to their last album, well, it just doesn’t even begin to stand up. Not in the least.

On a side note, I am a huge Bowie fan. And you can no doubt recognize Placebo’s interest in Bowie (and his in them)…50th Birthday Bash for Bowie (they opened, I saw it), trading interviews, duets…But, arguably, I will say the duet Bowie did with Placebo (Without You I’m Nothing) was awful. I think the problem was Bowie and Brian could just not “harmonize” on that song at all. But give their duet/cover of “20th Century Boy” a chance…it really is much more suited to their varied singing styles.

Saturn, I understand what you mean about Brian and David not harmonizing at all. That is what I thought when I first heard it. I love the original song. Whenever that song comes on I have to skip it. It makes me sad to think that this song was a “bonus” track.

As for the makeup of the album, I thought it was done well. The band really took time to think about what they should do. The mix of sounds are really what gets me. Some blues sounds, some of their sound, some electronica, and some rap(I am still not too sure about this one). It is very well-rounded for me. As for standouts, I like “Special K”. I don’t know, maybe it is because I listened to it for a while before I got the CD, or maybe I just like the video(I love when musician’s minds run wild). It is very futuristic and reminds me of the movie “Inner Space”.

On a side note from me, I have to be honest. The first time I heard this band, it was on my Cruel Intentions soundtrack. My friend saw the movie, liked the music, and recommended the soundtrack to me. I didn’t pay attention to the bands. I loved the songs though. Fastforward to this year, during Spring Break. I was on the computer, needing to listen to a radio. I found a new internet radio station to add to my list. I picked out the genre that I liked, and lo and behold, Placebo was on the list. I liked the song(“Pure Morning”) and decided to buy the album. Then a little later, I heard something from their first album. Great, I thought, another CD I needed to buy. But I love them. So, there it is, I have only known their sounds for about 2 months, but am hooked.

Oh, and Saturn, I love your sig!
