I general, I don’t care for “meat substitute” veggie foods, although once in a while I will grill up a Boca Burger (or even better a MorningStar Farms veggieburger) but the couple of times that I actually tried tofurkey I was not very impressed.
That said, I hope you enjoy your meal—After all, it’s all about what tastes good to you…
If you get the full Tofurkey meal pack, I liked the dumplings, stuffing, and gravy. I found the taste of the Tofurkey itself to be very “processed,” like a turkey loaf or something. It’s not awful but not awesome either, IMO.
It’s also quite possible I just sucked at preparing it correctly. Search around online for recommendations.
My wife and I will be alone together, and we don’t really care much about the Thanksgiving thing (not being Americans) – but she does want a roast dinner, so I think we might have some roast lamb, plus a few interesting side dishes to satisfy me.
Well, on Thursday we’ll be making homemade ravioli with a cranberry-mascarpone filling. We’re celebrating Thanksgiving the following Monday, when my stepson gets home.
But then, he and my wife are vegetarian, so we *still *won’t be having turkey - just all the other normal Thanksgiving stuff.
I have no idea what we’ll be having. Probably some type of fish, unless I can find some type of restaurant the caters to tourists and has an American Thanksgiving dinner (I’ve been to restaurants in Mexico that do this, and it’s never half-bad).
It’s a real shame, though. Last year I had turkey on a stick from a food stand at a Weinachtsmarkt in Germany. Not that it wasn’t good; it just wasn’t Thanksgiving.
We alternate years between “traditional” and “something else.” This is a “something else” year.
The year-before-last, I did a Corned Beef & Cabbage, and this year I’m doing a Pork Roast, with some kind of glaze (haven’t settled yet on which one I want).
The sides are sort of eternal: mushy spuds and/or sweet potatoes of some sort, cranberry stuff (I hate it, but family insists), green bean casserole, stuffing of some kind, pumpkin and/or pecan and/or sweet potato pie, with whipped cream.
Were doing two thanksgivings this year due to work schedules. The one with my family with be turkey. the one with hers will likely be lasagna. They aren’t vegetarians. they just like lasagna more than turkey.
We’re having deep-fried turkey, a honeybaked ham, and my husband is smoking a beef roast, as well. We host about 16 people so there’s plenty for dinner plus plenty for take-home leftovers, which everyone really does appreciate.
Southwestern Thansgiving: Green chile stew, corn pudding, Mormon tea (from the Ephedra bush in my yard) and maybe chips and salsa or dried cranberries boiled with rice. That’s all my budget will cover this year.
Just two of us on Thursday, so I’ve got a couple of nice New York strips dry aging in the fridge.
I’ve got some chanterelle mushrooms to saute up, and potatoes of choice (roasted sweet for me, hashbrowns for him).
We did have turkey two weekends ago when we visited family in Oregon and celebrated thanksgiving early.
