We’re not. It’s just going to be the spouse and me and I’m not doing a whole bird for just two people. On top of that, my spouse eats a lot of turkey throughout the year so it’s nothing special for him. We decided that instead of trying to find a decent restaurant Thanksgiving meal we’re staying home and I’m making salmon the centerpiece of the meal. Hey, our meal, our decision.
We’re doing a ham this year. It’s a small gathering, and none of us really felt like doing a turkey so ham it is.
Other than that, it’s gonna be pretty traditional, with pumpkin pies and green bean casserole (from real green beans and mushrooms and homemade sauce, not canned green beans and canned mushroom soup).
Oh I guess we do have some turkey. I made some turkey and cranberry sausage that I’ll cook up, and turkey rillettes for an appetizer/brunch thing. So maybe we are having turkey, just not traditional turkey, and not as the main course.
I have to work but honestly I’m not that big of a turkey fan in the first place. I usually do go to the relatives though, and there’s always turkey, and I always partake, just because its there. I don’t dislike it, but if it was just me and my wife I’d probably just make some chicken or something. I don’t personally think turkey tastes THAT good especially for how much prep and pain in the ass they are.
Apparently a lot of people are eating smoked salmon. At least that’s what I conclude based on a conversation I had this week. You see, I am a salesman to commercial food processors, and I contacted a producer of (only) smoked salmon a few days ago to follow up on a proposal I had given them some time ago. The response I received was that it wasn’t a good time to talk, since it was just before Thanksgiving and they were very busy. Since their only product is smoked salmon, I must conclude that many people are eating smoked salmon rather than turkey for Thanksgiving.
Not doing turkey b/c my wife and I are leaving tomorrow morning for a long weekend in Mexico. It’ll be whatever is on the menu at the restaurant at the resort.
We usually do a big Thanksgiving dinner with my husband’s family, but this year we’ve already seen them all earlier this month… so we’re staying home. My contrarian husband wanted ham. So we’re having ham. Fine with me, easier to deal with than a turkey and the toddler will eat it.
This year, it’s just going to be me, my mom, and my youngest son. I suggested that we just do a cranberry pork loin this year. She just looked at me like I was full of the crazy.
(Sigh) So turkey it is. And guess who gets to fry it up?
On Thanksgiving itself, we’re having chili. But we still had a traditional Thanksgiving dinner with turkey with the extended family this past Saturday, and we’ll be having another one with more immediate family in a couple of weeks.
Just the Wife and I on T-day, so it’s beef tenderloins. Going to visit some family on Friday, and we will order out Chinese food and play some board games.
We’re doing turkey, but I saw several thanksgiving salmon recipes in magazines this year. I like fish in general, but not salmon. I’d do duck or ham, but I was never really motivated since I like turkey so much. Mine’s brining right now!
