So you’re not having turkey, but you’re roasting one?
We’re not. My stepson is with his dad’s family tomorrow. We’re going to celebrate Thanksgiving on Friday with him, but go out to a restaurant.
We’re not not having turkey.
Read it again.
We did the family thing last Sunday so it’s just me. I plan on making a beef roast in my new electric pressure cooker.
I don’t like turkey so I’m not having it, but then my wife and I don’t celebrate Thanksgiving anyway, so no big deal.
the closest to Thanksgiving turkey I will be is a Turkey Reuben at Jason’s Deli on Friday. We are going to an Italian place for dinner on thursday. I am very thankful that there are other options than turkey and dressing. My favorite Thanksgiving meal was boiled gulf shrimp.
In my fiancee’s family, the typical meat for Thanksgiving is ham. And that is what we WERE having, until she teamed up with a neighbor who is bringing a turkey. She also invited 10 people.
I like turkey. Heck, I like anything I can digest to be honest, but it isn’t my favorite. Turkey Tetrazzini is very good on the other hand, so I look forward to the weekend following Thanksgiving.
Well, we’re not having Arby’s. They’re closed tomorrow. I just called and asked them. I guess we’ll have whatever the bar puts out (usually sandwiches and stuff). Meh - I really can’t get worked up about this stuff anymore.
I am roasting a turkey breast. But I probably won’t actually eat any for thanksgiving. With just a breast, the gravy sucks(and instant is an abomination), so it isn’t really worth eating hot.
I pick up one from one of the loss-leader deals every year, and cook it for the sammiches.
I think my mom’s cooking a pot roast and pork roast for us tomorrow. On Sunday, my wife is cooking a turkey et al.
I’m roasting a chicken. It’s just 4 of us: mom, me, daughter, husband, so a turkey would be a waste. Husband is upset, though. He loves turkey. Daughter and I don’t really care for turkey, and Mom doesn’t particularly care. I got a nice sized 5-pounder chicken, though, so should still be enough for sammiches after.
I agree with Calvin Trillin. America was discovered by an Italian, even named by an Italian, so we should be eating Italian food at Thanksgiving.
Calvin suggests Linguini Carbonara. Why? Because it’s Italian and it tastes good.
Pot roast for me.
In the crockpot.
Just us and a friend this year so no turkey. We’re having ham.
I actually have an interest in preparing nice dinners for two, with no leftovers. It can be a challenge.
Maybe turkey divan instead of a whole bird? Risotto. Individual ramekins with pumpkin creme brûlée?
You speak the truth - I’ve been trying to since 2008 for cryin’ out loud. The only thing that I can make work is steaks on the grill. And unless I buy myself a filet mignon or something equally as small (and too expensive), there are STILL leftovers. It makes the dog happy, but I miss having a teenaged son around - he was an absolute eating MACHINE.
Sorry for the hijack - this should probably be in a thread by itself - I apologize.
I prefer Snoopy’s Thanksgiving menu, popcorn, pretzels, jelly beans and toast.
Is salmon for Thanksgiving something new? Grilled salmon with lemon butter is on this menu of where we’ll be going. I didn’t think anything of it until I saw this thread. Don’t recall it being big Thanksgiving fare before.
We are having a roast.
I may make cranberries and stove top, any excuse is good for homemade cranberry sauce.
