Anyone having a main course other than turkey for Thanksgiving?

I hear there are some pagans who have a big glazed ham . . .

We’re having both Turkey and Ham. Why choose?

We’re going to a big buffet style Thanksgiving feast for the third year in a row. The father-in-law and myself usually forego the turkey in favor of the all-you-can-eat king crab legs.

One turkey and one roast pig.

We are having both turkey and ham. I’m pagan though so that must explain the ham thing. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ll be roasting a chicken.

Turkey and pigs in a blanket. Also some sausage and stuff that could easily serve as a main course for an ordinary dinner.

We had (thanksgiving being over a month ago :p) roast beef.

This isn’t usual for us but since Dad broke his foot it was easier for Grandma to make and transport to his house instead of turkey and the trimmings.

Turkey and, for the vegetarians (like me), a baked mushroom, spinach, and cheese phyllo-wrapped “pocket”/strudel.

I’m making my Thanksgiving traditional lasagna (spinach, peppers, mushrooms, broccoli, ricotta, mozzarella, asiago and a few other things I can’t mention 'cause they’re secret ingredients), apple pie and possibly a new addition, what I call Mexican lasagna (arborio rice, pinto beans, refried beans, veggies, cheeses, tortillas, salsa, etc. all baked in layers).

ETA: Like Ferret Herder, I’m a veg.

Seconded.

With that being said though, the big family gathering, potluck, mass carb & protein fests that we have tend to spontaneously generate 2-6 additional protein choices. I’ll bet serious money that we’ll also have fried chicken, bierocks, meatloaf, grilled burgers and wieners and probably cheesy ham and potato casserole. Aunt Maria will probably show up with the lutefisk …(shudder)…again.

I’m visiting my family for Thanksgiving, and my oldest sister will be cooking. There will certainly be a turkey, but there will be a ham, too.

Growing up when T-Giving was just the immediate family (4 of us) , Mom would roast a capon. It would be a turkey if the crowd got bigger.

We also have Stuffing, Gravy, Mashed Potatoes, Peas, sweet potato pie, pearl onions, rolls, cranberry sauce, apple pie.

A leg of lamb was the normal fare for Christmas and ham for Easter.

We’re having ham instead of turkey. This is because my mom makes fantastic side dishes, but crap turkey. And no one who’s going to be there really likes turkey, anyway.

We’re having pork loin. Cooking a turkey properly in my tiny gas oven is HARD.

Is anyone having a goose?

Lamb would be more fitting for Easter, wouldn’t it? Agnus Dei, and all that. (And don’t tell me that’s in bad taste – I mean, what’s Communion?)

I haven’t eaten meat or poultry for many years, but I still absolutely love seafood, so I am trying to decide what I will be fixing for myself. Maybe some BBQ Gulf shrimp, or possibly a nice piece of grilled Alaskan salmon. Some jumbo scallops might be a tasty way to go, I suppose with a little teriyaki glaze…

Any Doper seafood recommendations are certainly welcome, as are any tofurkey jokes you can come up with. (and for the record, I would rather go hungry that eat tofurkey).

Ham is the primary meat and turkey is the secondary meat. I’d happily have grilled beef tenderloin in place of both, but who could afford that. Only 3 people at the dinner will eat turkey at all.

I’m having tofurkey.

I am completely serious.
