Anyone heard of Monkey Magic?

Or just “Monkey”, which was a Japanese television show I watched as a young adolescent, dubbed into English in the UK. Does anyone have a clue how I can get them in the US?

Failing that, is it possible to buy the dvd releases from Australia or the UK and play them on an American dvd player?

thanks…

This site and this site may give you a start.

FWIW they’re repeating this programme late at night on Channel 4 over here.

I think it’s “Monkey!”. There’s a load of episodes available at Amazon.co.ukbut all Region 2 (Europe).

Won’t play on a U.S. player unless it’s a multi-region one unfortunately, and the place I get my Region 1 (USA) DVDs from - Play.com doesn’t have it listed.

/me whistles down a cloud

“Ah Pigsy, stop eating and help me will you”

Note: Monkey was based supprisingly closely on an old Chinese story, translations of which can be found titled ‘Monkey’. I got a copy at an old-books fair and it is a great read.

BEST SHOW EVER!

EVER!

I am saving up for the DVDs.

“She’s not hideous…she’s only ordinarily ugly”

It is the best show ever. And so was Water Margin

We watched it for a treat in chinese class.

I remember there is a character who is a woman pretending to be a man pretending to be a woman … or something…

Anyway, we had fun.

If the show had monkey butlers, I’ll look into it.

Aw hell, y’all had me at `monkey’.

I think Tripitaka(sp?) the monk was played by a woman pretending to be a boy. One of my favourite episodes was when Tripitaka was posessed and starting acting “bad” - he went to the local disco in the village - complete with electronic lights and an instrumental version of the theme song.
