Oddly, no - users of the southern pronunciation seem to slightly more understanding of the northern version.

Yes, enough frivolity. The northern pronunciation that rhymes with ‘on’ is the most likely to be universally understood.

Also without this pronunciation, the ‘What is the world’s fastest cake?’ joke doesn’t work.
