I keep thinking it would be nice to get out cycling as a family - we all have bikes, but my kids are probably just a bit young and inexperienced to be cycling any distance on proper roads.
I’m thinking about getting a couple of these - seems like they would be more versatile than something like this because the kid’s bike can be detached and used independently - I’m thinking about taking the bikes when we go camping - the Trailgator being used for the longer journeys and the bikes being used separately for the kids to ride around the camp site, or when we get where we’re going.
I understand that one of the big drawbacks of stuff like this is that the child and apparatus can just end up being a dead weight, but that’s only part of my question; if you look at the photo, the front wheel of the child’s bike is raised off the ground (as indeed it must be, to prevent them steering against the direction of travel), but
a)this appears to tilt the child backwards into a position where they would seem quite likely to tire, lose their grip and fall off backwards
b)the front of their bike is raised by a quite a long cantilever
c)isn’t there a risk that the child’s front wheel will still contact the road surface when traversing a traffic control bump or when bottoming out in a deep dip?
Has anyone experience of this particular device?
