Anyone in real estate?

My husband and I have recently bought a house, and I’m kind of at a career crossroads. I’ve really actually enjoyed the whole process, save the issues with my jackass of a father-in-law, and I’m starting to think about a career as a real estate agent. I’ve found a couple of schools near here, and I’m starting to think I might want to pursue it.

Is anyone a real estate agent now, or has been one? Is it a decent career? Is it something that could become lucrative? Is it going to be worth the money spent on classes and getting my license?

I’d appreciate any advice on the matter. I kind of feel like I’m at the point where I’m wondering what to do with my life, and I feel like this might be a good career for me.

I am not in real estate, but I know several people who are in the business. My wife aunt and cousin are both agents and both do quite well, but they’ve been doing it for years. I know another young young woman who is still struggling after more than a year, and might quit the business. Of course, her problems might be something other than the business. A former co-worker who got laid off has completed all her licensing classes and exams and she is quite excited about the business. She is going to try to focus on Spanish speaking buyer/sellers, as she is also interested in utilizing her Spanish language skills. In this area that’s not a lot of people, but I admire her ability to focus on a market/demographic.

There are lots of people who make lots of money selling real estate, but I think it’s a tough business to break into. Good luck!

Thanks. I’m going to talk to my FIL a bit, too.

I’m kind of hoping Astro peeks in here, too. I know he’s a real estate agent.

I considered it once, but realized that my nights and weekends would no longer be mine, and that was the big deal-killer.
