I was considering going into Real Estate Sales and was wondering if people 1) Like it, 2) Make any $ at it and 3) had any advice for getting started. Thanks - JC
My cousin sold real estate. She usually sold commercial property. She did quite well.
One commish paid off all her debt, (mortgage included) and she took a trip and bought a 35 thousand dollar vehicle, cash.
The deal was worth several million bux. Her portion was several hundred thousand bux.
You’re working nights and weekends. According to my cousin, your social life goes in the dumper, but the monetary rewards are significant.
That doesn’t happen very often Jimmy. Often you have to come to the office every day for a year & you won’t make any sales.
Depends on where you are JC, which you didn’t say.
From a friend of mine, who gave up real estate because he couldn’t get to sleep at night:
You’ll do OK as long as you have no conscience. You have to be able to talk people into homes that they don’t need, are too big, too small, in the wrong neighborhood & way outside of their price range. If the kitched ceiling caves in while you are giving a tour, you have to be able to say that’s a feature of the house, and you have to be able to say it with a dead-serious straight face. Furthermore, you have to avoid dissuading potential buyers even though you know they have been hooked by predatory lenders unless you don’t care if you lose the sale.
Some people are made for this job.
I’m in Chicago, by the way…
“If the kitched ceiling caves in while you are giving a tour, you have to be able to say
that’s a feature of the house”
Oh, that’s pure genius!
I took some pictures today for my web site later of houses that sold in Pacific Grove recently. You just have to see what crap $2M buys.
Great training for working at Microsoft tech support.
Sorry about the hijack.
My mom just started Real Estate a little over a year ago, and she loves it! She has a passion for houses and is a very “people” person. Does she make money? Well… she just sold a $1,000,000 property yesterday and is showing an $18,000,000 property tomorrow! It does depend on where you are located… My momm lives near West Palm, Florida.
But I say -go for it! It can be slow for a while while you are still making a name for yourself, but once you put yourself out there, business comes.
