Anyone in the Dallas, TX area need a dog?

Hello all,

I am posting this on behalf of a woman I know from another message board (with her permission - and TubaDiva’s, of course!)

She is in the Dallas, TX area and recently found a pit pull, who she named Jake.

Pictures first, to evoke dog-loving warm fuzzy feelings:

Jake the dog

She is unable to keep Jake because she already has 4 dogs, and he would put her over the legal dog limit for her area. She has tried various rescues, and can’t find any that will take him (except to euthanize him), since he is a pit bull.

He is by all accounts a very sweet dog, a bit shy, but has been getting along with her other dogs & people. Currently she is paying to board him since she can’t legally keep him at her house any longer.

She is sending me a more detailed bio of Jake later today, but I wanted to get this out there since she won’t be able to afford to keep him for much longer. PM me if you are interested, and I will give you her contact information.

Aww. What a cutie. I wish I could, but I have three and can’t handle any more.

I shouldn’t have clicked that link…

Yeah, I want him too, but I’m far away, and we aren’t allowed to have dogs in my apt. complex.

I think that’s why I’m so obsessed with finding him a home! If I can’t have him, at least I can try to find someone else who’ll love him!

I want him!

I live in an apartment in Toronto and I already have a pit bull. So I can’t have him.

I don’t know how dog rescue people do it. I want a big piece of land in the countryside so I can take every dog that comes along.

sigh

good luck Jake!

Awww, he looks like a paler version of my neighbor’s dog, Tank. And he looks to be just as sweet as Tank, too. I wish I could help.

That slideshow ranks right up there with those Pedigree commercials where the dog says “I just want to go home.” Which made me want to go to the nearest shelter and take 'em all home, of course.

::: sigh :::

I have more than enough dogs already – all of them strays/rescued – and I’m too far away to be going to Texas and getting a dog. Doesn’t mean I don’t want to, though.

Operation Kindness may be able to help. They’re a no-kill shelter in North Dallas.

The Pit Bull Project may be able to recommend a pit-specific rescue in the area.

What a cutie…

Thanks for the links! I’ll pass them along. In the meantime, Jake’s current caretaker has give me some more information about him. Here is a bio that she wrote, plus pictures & an address if you would like to donate any money to help take care of him until he gets an owner:

"Hi! My name is Jake. I’m a 1.5-year-old neutered male lab mix. I was rescued off of the streets of Plano,Texas by my foster mommy. She took me in, gave me shots, and got me neutered. I am also heartworm negative (and on preventative), and in great overall health!

I was in my foster home for over a month with 4 adult dogs and a 2-year-old baby and did
really well with them. It would be best if I was either the only dog in my new household or
if there was only one other dog about my size, as I love to play and need lots and lots of
love and attention. I’ve never been around cats, so I’m not sure if I like them or not. I’m not a big fan of riding in the car, but I love to go for walks and run around in a nice, spacious backyard. I get really scared whenever placed in a kennel, but am perfectly happy in a dog run. I attach quickly and love to snuggle up next to my people on a couch or chair.

Unfortunately, my foster mom is unable to keep me at her home any longer, as I put her one
over the city limit, so she is currently paying to board me at Toothacres Pet Care Center.
Boarding is not cheap, and she is not sure how long I will be able to stay there. Besides, even though the people at Toothacres take really good care of me, I’m very lonely out here and would do anything to find a family to go home with.

I am a VERY sweet boy and just need a good, loving home, where I can get lots of love and
attention. I’m still quite puppyish, so my foster mom was also working on my manners (basic commands - sit, stay, down, etc., and chewing things, as all young dogs do). I will need someone who is willing to either continue working with me or take me to obedience classes. I’m making great progress, though! I answer to my name, am housetrained, and use a doggie door with confidence!

I am about 50 pounds and full grown, and my estimated date of birth is January 2006. I’m
blondish in color with black and white markings. I even have a cute black heart on my chin!

Can’t adopt right now? You can still help! Any monetary donations can be sent directly to Toothacres, to help offset the cost of my daily boarding fees! Every dollar helps!
