Verrain has finished his “How to Make a Character” essay for our game and I’ll have it up this afternoon after I get the graphics done. A discussion of the various Powers will hopefully go up sometime tonight.
Oh well, I love the auction. 
In my games, we keep the results secret, so players are only aware of how they stand in relation to the others.

We’re going to have to put a cut off date on this sign up list. I’ll confer with Verrain and then post it.
Verrain, I think I can handle stepping into a character… I’m something of a writer and the skills overlap a bit. I don’t have any experience with it though ('puter RPGs invariably lead you to be more concerned with exploiting the game to win than with ‘becoming’ your character), and I’m a bit lacking in confidence… I expect I’ll muddle through, but any general pointers would be appreciated. 
I’m more concerned with not having a clue about Amber actually (well, I’ve played ZAngband and that has Amberites in it, and the ultimate nasty is the Serpent of Chaos, but that don’t count :)), be it the style, the rules, or any of the background… how long have I got to read that book? Have I got time to finish Alice first or am I popping off to the library/bookstore after my lab tomorrow?
You can read Nine Princes in Amber* in an evening. These aren’t the most intense or wordy tomes I’ve ever read.
I’d say read it as soon as possible. We’d like to get this started in a couple of weeks at least. That’s when my finals are over.
Something else to keep in mind is that everyone’s views of Amber are different. My palace has hot and cold running water. Showers, even! Other’s have bathing rooms set aside and servants have to haul your water up. Feh.
Now that I know where my Star Wars books are, I can check to see how well it would lend itself to PBeM.
Sign me up for the Amber game.

Well Arden the school blocks via a program called Bess (I just call it that damn dog since whenever you try to get somewhere you can’t go a picture of a dog shows up saying ‘Bess can’t go there’) anything not allowed is blocked which means anything that is rude and crude and known to be not the best is blocked… IE: http://www.plif.com http://www.stickdeath.com and anything that is free sites or email(angelfire, hotmail, yahoo) is as well. It’s very annoying especially when trying to do research online because half the sites that come up are blocked.
I’ll email you from my school addy and I’ll just use that (I can enter it from home too) Once summer comes though I’ll have to switch to hotmail because the school mail drops you once school is over.
I need to start reading those sites now since I’m gonna be confused when we start if I don’t! I have to do class work first though… all the comps were in use during my spare so I couldn’t do anything except think my thoughts for an hour or so.
Damn. How tyrannical. Where do you go to school?
Anyway. I’m still working on the Powers stuff but the Character Creation Step-by-Step is up:

Wow. I’m working on adapting a character and, at the same time, shuffling through Amber pages looking at character profiles for guidance. Wow, some of these people’s characters are super-multi-talented/powered. And here I am, worrying about not putting too much in, I may not have enough. Or is that atypical?
