I recently started getting into rave and learning to rave and all that. But, I wanted to know if anyone knows of any really good rave songs (I go the clubs, but they don’t say the names). I know that there have to be some other really good songs besides Sandstorm. If anyone can contribute it would really be appreciated. Thanks.
Try “Zoo Rave” volumes one and two for a start. Also try “Stylophonia” by a group called “Two Little Boys”. It’s a classic. If I think of any more, I’ll post them. Also, do you mean rave, or trance, or both?
I mean rave, like um…the Blade song. I don’t know the name but I’m sure that any raver knows which one I’m talking about. Also, I dont know what you’d file Sandstorm under either but I consider that rave. I guess anything you can rave to. Maybe an explanation between the difference between rave and trance is in order. Thanks.
That would be “Confusion” by “New Order”.
There was a thread awhile back on the diference between techno, trance, acid house, and whathaveyou. Don’t worry about all that.
I recommend picking up a compilation CD at your local music store. Ministry of Sound puts out a bunch of good ones each year.
A lot of the more commercial “Trance Mix 2003” “MTV Rave Party” etc mixes all end up with the same songs from the likes of Darude, Kemkraft, Filter and so on.
Also, it helps to get a European friend.
Yeah, I also recommend “That Trance Mix:The Best in Uplifting and Hard Trance” by BPM magazine. They give two links in the CD liner notes. The the first one and the second one I like almost all the sub genres on the first site. I’ve found rave from Holland to be excellent. Look into Mokum record’s artists. Also look into RMB, they’re great.
I just downloaded the song “Memory of You” on the downloads page on the second site. One more artist to recommed, he started out on MP3.com, but he’s got more than one album out now. His MP3.com site is still up though. 303 infinity Hope you enjoy.
That “Blade” song is a remix of the song “Confusion” by New Order. The original is much better, IMO. Unfortunately, all the versions online seem to be this annoying remixed one. Errggh.
I recommend Kraftwerk. No-one who claims to like rave music can honestly ignore the originators of the genre (and many others).
Hmm, I’ve got a quote from the info section of the above artists MP3.com site. Maybe this artist is some of what you’ve been looking for?
When I used to go, the prototypical rave song was “the Bells” by Jeff Mills. It’s not really ravey, more pure detroit techno. It’s a great track though.
