Your own Wikipedia link says that it does:

Even if that statement turned out not to be true, it is very hard to find a university of any size in the U.S. that does not receive some federal funding. Research is often funded by federal grants so there are typically many sources of federal funding going to schools that are active in research.

If you read your own link that you provided in the OP, you would see:

Congress incorporated the Columbia institution in 1857, significantly amended its charter in 1954 and authorizing permanent congressional appropriations. In 1986, Congress passed the Education of the Deaf Act and amended it in 1992. These Congressional acts are part of “the supreme law of Gallaudet University.”

from the Federal appropriation process. The Bush Administration budget for
the University is $106.998 million, the same as our appropriation in FY 2006.
This budget request must be examined in the context of a Federal budget
deficit that is now growing toward historically large proportions of total
economic activity in the United States. In the course of reviewing revenue
assumptions for FY 2007, the UBC considered an historical analysis of the
growth and decline of Federal budget deficits. We remain concerned about the
level of the deficit, and the potential response to it by Congress.

The proper way to pronounce it is “Gall-ah-dette” with the emphasis on “ah”… Although for some reason people in DC call it “Gall-you-dette” like Ravenman said… :dubious:

Drove me crazy when I was in grad school there… Luckily the Deaf students and staff at least signed it right…

It’s pronounced as Daffyd explained. That webpage that butler1850 linked to is for finger spelling, which is not used in ordinary fluent American Sign Language. The sign for Gallaudet, which someone showed me once, is using a couple of fingers (like the sign for the letter G, I’m told) near the forehead.
