I just wonder if anyone knows whats happening with the series. Its been quite a while since 1633 came out and we’ve had almost nothing on the books that will move them main story line forward. Instead all we’ve gotten are some working titles (such as 1634: The Baltic War and 1634: The Bavarian Crisis), some anthologies and of course 1634: The Galileo Affair which didn’t really move the main story line forward at all but instead told of some (less interesting IMHO) events taking place in other areas with other characters.
I’ve read through some of Flints web site and he has a LOT of plans…but he seems to be spinning his wheels and not really getting anywhere. Anyone have any idea when we might see another book…especially a book that will move the story forward?
Am I just being impatient here or is this really moving forward as slowly as I think it is?
Flint wrote a new novel, The Rivers of War, this year. Presumedly this took time away from his writing of the next 1634 book.
According to Amazon, the next novel in the 1634 series, The Ram Rebellion, is scheduled for an April 2006 release. There’s also another Grantville Gazette book in March. I don’t have any idea of how much they will move the story along.
Not very much I’d say. Ram Rebellion is part of the ‘Central Europe thread’…and the anthology will be probably a lot like the last one. Interesting, filling in some of the back story and introducing new characters and new areas, but not moving anything forward. According to the Wiki article I linked too the stories in the central thread are 1634: The Baltic War (appearently coupled with a cancelled title 1634: Escape from the Tower) and a sequal 1635: The Eastern Front.
Snippets from 1634 : The Ram Rebellion and 1634 : The Bavarian Crisis are available here at Dahak’s Orbit. It also mentions that as of January Flint and Weber hadn’t even started 1634 : The Baltic War yet.
