So, Josh Paul, formerly of the Angels and the (Devil) Rays, is a player I’m quite fond of. He was a serviceable catcher, but he’s best known for failing to tag out AJ Pierzynski in the 2005 ALCS after a dropped third strike call that the umpire’s mechanics made very confusing.
According to his Wikipedia page, he was managing the Staten Island Yankees for a while, but I can’t find any reference to him being there after about mid-August. There was talk he’d replace the Yankees’ bullpen coach, but that didn’t pan out. Tom Slater is managing Staten Island this year, and Josh isn’t listed as a coach for the Yankees or any of their minor league affiliates.
The Yankees organization thought pretty highly of Paul, so would they have just let him go? I’m just idly curious where he ended up.
