Anyone Know Where to Buy This Fabric?

My wife designs and sews costumes for actors and iceskaters. She has done some very nice work. One day, she had a client who wanted a gold-metallic skating costume. I noticed that a pot scrubber pad we had had some gold-colored threads woven into it-perfect. Anyone know if you can buy this fabric? Where would you look for it?

What she’s likely needing is gold lamé – she should be able to get it at any decent fabric store. Alternatively, they will have other not-so-itchy types of fabric. I would recommend Hancock Fabrics first, followed by Joann’s.

Many brick and mortar stores will have fancy fabric samples, so that they don’t have to carry a whole bolt of something that turns over very slowly. Make sure to ask at the counter.

If you’re loking for something a bit stretchy, you might need something called liquid gold. It comes in colors. And do ask about special orders. Tell them what you need it for, and they can probably find something suitable.

Here are a bunch of gold metallic fabrics from Hancock Fabrics:
Liquid Lame
Tissue Lame
Gold Magic Chips Foil Fabric
Knit Sequin Fabric (comes in gold)
Gold With Sequins Fabric

You can’t seriously be thinking of making the costume from the fabric your pot scrubber is made from! That wouldn’t be comfortable at all!

It’s not a brick and mortar store, but try Dazians. When I worked for them they had a whole division just for skating/dance school type clothing. They also have fabrics for theater and display that might be appropriate.
