Anyone know why Hugh Quarshie didn't return for Attack of the Clones?

He played Panaka in the first one, but was replaced by Captain Typho in the second one.

It’s clear that the part of Typho was slated to be Panaka, but was only changed since Hugh Quarshie dropped out.

I’ve never heard an official statement about this. Anyone know?

He read the script?

Damn.

Three years later and I’m still wondering this…

Perhaps you could try writing him?

I guess I was just surprised this wasn’t discussed and resolved by fans. He was one of the only cool things in the first one.

I heard something that he asked for too much money.

Dunno about an official statement, but according to IMDB:

Hah! So jjim’s pithy answer was in fact correct!

Actually, jjimm’s pithy answer was in fact the exact opposite of correct- if Terrifel’s imdb quote is to be believed.

Well, if you want to nitpick. I say that he knew what to expect for quality since he was in ep 1 and if he was willing to forgo the paycheck over not being allowed to see the ep 2 script everyone’s right, and we’re all happy.

Is the actor/character memorable for any reason?

I remember thinking he had a really cool outfit. And kind of seemed like he had the potential to be one of those inexplicably cool minor characters. Besides, this was The Phantom Menace, so anything or anyone that didn’t totally suck really stood out.

Proud to be 180º out!
