Simone was showing on a flight, so I watched it. I don’t always watch airline movies, but I like Al Pacino. I think I was expecting more based on a tv ad trailer. It was an OK movie, but I’m glad I didn’t pay to see it. Anyone like Simone?
I have not seen it. But I posted this last August:
How accurate was my projection?
Rilchiam, you are simply clairvoyant!
Woohoo!
Violet, I think you’re the only person who has ever actually WATCHED that movie.
It lasted how long at the box office? Four minutes?
my parents dragged me on a cruise ship and i was bored out of my mind, and the thing about cruise ships is that you only get about 3 channels and each one shows the same movie over and over again. so one of these was simone/s1mOne. first of all, yes it was a pretty bad movie, not as awful as “home alone three” (which was the other movie they were showing), but really uninteresting and stupid. and it will be forever associated with that horrid vacation, where everyone was drunk except me.
Does simone get naked? I might watch for that.
I caught it in-flight too.
My god, I don’t think I’ve ever seen such monumental plot holes ever.
Simone does get naked in a movie we’re unfortunately never shown. Like I said, lotsa things missing from that script.
It wasn’t very good, which made me sad, because I’ve been screaming to deaf ears for years that the second computer animation is convincing enough, people will stop using real actors. So it made me sad that a movie based upon a premise that I made up on my own was so poorly executed.
On the other hand, my name is Simone, and it was damned cool to see crowds cheering and holding signs that said “Simone” in lots of languages. I almost shed a tear. I think there was also a movie ad that said, “‘Simone’ is brilliant and fascinating,” or something like that. I dug that.
I paid to see it. I liked it. So sue me.
I paid to see it. I hated it. If I could sue, I would.
You better call a lawyer, boy-o. That movie could suck the chrome off a trailer hitch.
Shockingly bad. No, that’s not fair. Not that bad. I think what bothered me the most was that it was a satire that couldn’t decide whether to be absurdist or realistic, and in the end it was just stupid.
Al Pacino’s daughter in the movie is hot, though.
This movie is so much worse than what most people are describing it as. It’s POOP!
There are some great story ideas that I would have liked to see in a much better movie. I’m not just talking about “lessons” or “statements”, I think there were some great creative ideas expressed, but not fully realized in “Simone”. The movie spoke to its audience like they were naive children not able to distinguish between real and fake, not unlike how Al Pacino’s character treated Simone’s audience in the movie. The difference being, the people who watched this film are real. They are not as stupid as the people in the movie are.
The lengths this movie goes to prove a point, (and I have yet to fully understand what that point actually is), are so absurd that I almost question whether or not it was intentionally absurd.
::SPOILERS::
Simone becomes a politician to make the world a better place for her new child. Oh, yeah… that’s an ethical move for Pacino’s character. He REALLY learned his lesson!:dubious:
Was it intentional for him to make the same mistake all over again? To take an icon people adored, (even after she claimed that children’s schools should have shooting ranges so kids learned how to protect themselves), and thrust his own ideas of how the world should be, (through Simone), to a completely illogical and bias public? Is this supposed to be a happy ending, or an ironic ending? Even IF this movie ended in irony, it’s secretly mocking the very people who paid money to see it. The ‘public’ in this movie is a caricature of us, and the ‘public’ in the movie is also pretty F*ing dense!
The movie “I AM PIG” gets a standing ovation!? Perhaps if this movie expressed that Simone’s fans were just a minority, than I wouldn’t feel so insulted. But the movie failed to show ONE person that didn’t by into all of the shit. If the movie was just to entertain, and not be taken so seriously, then there’s absolutely NO point to be made here. There’s no message or moral, it’s just a way to waist 2 hours.
I loved Niccol’s other films… what the hell went wrong!?
Like I said, I think there were elements in THIS movie that could have contributed to a much BETTER movie.
-The situations could have been a lot more believable for the public, (in the movie), to buy into.
-They could have easily given the public (in the movie), much more credit without sacrificing the basic storyline.
-If they DID want to make the film more “surreal”, then they could have made the situations more outlandish and sarcastic. To let the audience ‘in’ on what this movie’s actually trying to be. Not unlike “South Park” where:
-The towns’ people are completely stupid and selfish, (apart from the 4... I mean 3... no wait, Cartman doesn't count, --2 rational boys),
-The situations are *blatantly* absurd and exaggerated.
All of this, and yet there’s often a clear message in the end of most of the cartoons.
In closing, I would just like to say that Rachel Roberts (Simone) did a great job IMHO.
I thought it was funny. It’s true there were flaws, but I still did enjoy it… I like just about any movie though. I DO think a character who didn’t buy into simone would have had the potential to be very funny though.
It wasn’t in my top 20 for the year but it was a decent flick.
